Re: Ashes 2019
Good win by the Poms, series is alive again.
Aussies to play a 3 day game against a powerhouse county team in Derby starting 29 aug, then back to test 4 next week.

Re: Ashes 2019
Well the English threw up a team ????mid week with the same strength as a remainers debating team. It was not even their best 11.
P..s poor effort by the Poms Ashes match organizing group.
They Only had a few years to think about it and to provide a county match suitable for the visiting team and of course the supporters. A decent county team or a young up and comers representative team would have loved to show their wares against a touring side.
Many traveling supporter groups pay good money to fly over and follow the series in its entirety. The Aussies are never so disrespectful to touring teams. We always try to provide good standard opposition. It appears cricket had lost its appeal in Britain.
Oh well the 4th and crucial test start very soon, hearing reports the Manchester pitch is the fastest in England, I hope we give Starc a go. The Aussies look like changing the batting with Marsh maybe coming in as an all rounder in place of Wade.
Strong rumour around Udon is the Aussies to win in a canter.

Re: Ashes 2019
When England last toured Australia there warm up games consisted of a 2 day game against Western Australia and a 2 day game against a Cricket Australia XI.... plus 2 matches of 4 days against a Cricket Australia XI which were very weak sides with players of the standard of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Sir Les Patterson !
So it's not just in England where touring sides play weak opposition.
The host countries should be made to play with at least half a dozen first team regulars in their line up.

Re: Ashes 2019
Why on earth would the players or fans of a top county side be interested in playing a game against the reserves of a touring side? Mid test games are only there to give the back up players a run out and stop them getting too bored whilst the test players have a rest

Yes Zidane I will admit your point but i did say “or young up and comers” which Australia provided. Young blokes that would have a crack.Zidane wrote:When England last toured Australia there warm up games consisted of a 2 day game against Western Australia and a 2 day game against a Cricket Australia XI.... plus 2 matches of 4 days against a Cricket Australia XI which were very weak sides with players of the standard of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Sir Les Patterson !

But you did force me to go back through the cricketers almanac and check that 4-0 thrashing of a series.
You were absolutely correct on your remark that they were weak sides. The 4-blot ( sorry did I mention that again) series win by the Aussies proved your point of team weakness comprehensively.
Not many of that Poms test team’s top 6 batsmen or the bowling troupe for that matter, from only a very short time ago, are still in the current England mix.
Thanks for the clarification.
I do think 20/20 or 50 over games has taken a much bigger toll on all teams.

Re: Ashes 2019
Unfortunately mr statts you may be correct.
If you brits would change channel from the Brexit vote tripe we could talk about something far far more recent. The last ashes tour in Australia. Aussies just won 4-0.
I only just caught on today looking at the almanac that the the last Ashes was after the brexit vote to leave.
You guys can certainly milk a cow dry.

If BOJO gets his way they will need to use the urn for the ashes of British democracy

Re: Ashes 2019
Thinking about it, I wonder if BOJO and his clowns organised the test dates?
Cant think of anyone else incompetent enough to schedule the Manchester test during what is historically the wettest 2 weeks of the "Summer" in Manchester.
If ya cant see the hills its raining, if ya can see the hills its gonna rain

As we well know the definition of an Optimist is "England's Opening Batsmen walking out at Old Trafford wearing sun-screen"

Reports I have just heard from the sunny north are that the English batsmen have not lost any early wickets and feeling very comfortable.

Re: Ashes 2019
England all out for a good 300 plus score. Unfortunately that’s 190 something behind.
63 overs left today. How do the Aussies approach this.
Maybe start out and play a 50 over style to see how they fare.
Foots on the throat so should be no mercy now.
But still a long way to go.

Re: Ashes 2019
We're doomed.
Have to face facts, beaten by a better team. Englands sub standard batting line-up no match for the Aussie pace attack and then of course there is the Smith factor.

Root became the first England captain to register three ducks in a series...
