Dundee U are rubbish, same as Dundee FC and most things Dundonian. Best thing about Dundee is the bypass. They'll be relegated again next season. They're worse than Burnley (if such a thing is possible).

Their uniform colours are nice, and the city has some outstanding street names. They should top the League next year. You can't help but cheer them on.

I've had many great nights out in Dundee. With Carnoustie just down the road and St Andrews across the bridge it's a great location for golfers.

I also had my most memorable business meeting at Dens Park being harangued by an excitable foreign footballer.

Add to that Dundee Utd were the 4th part of my 2023/4 football accumulator to come in and, you can see why I was so upset at LYM glossing over Uniteds great achievement. Now if only Celtic, Real Madrid, Bolton and (sadly) Leeds win the leagues or are promoted and, I'll be in the money

Apparently, the game of golf was invented at Carnoustie. I have been to the old Church at Panmure, Carnoustie, Brechin City (met the Laird of Brechin Castle) and Dundee. A weasel nearly knocked me over on the Castle grounds. I really liked Angus.

Dundee U. had a great year, and one has to feel happy for their success. However, I was hoping they could win big.

That was where he had the breakthrough result of his managerial career when Scotland won on penalties to qualify for Euro 2020. After 22 years the wait to qualify was over. Clarke and his team always wanted more, though. If he will always have Belgrade, might he also always have Stuttgart?

The city’s football stadium was once named in honour of Adolf Hitler. It hosted games at the 1974 and 2006 World Cups, as well as the 1959 and 1988 European Cup finals. So it has history. What it can also become is a sacred venue for tens of thousands of Scots who long to be able to say “I was there” for a famous result. They have invaded the city in Baden-Württemberg, mobbing its pubs for beer and shelter as the rain lashed down yesterday, to will Scotland to something it has never achieved before. Beat Hungary and they will — probably — qualify for the knockout stage of a major tournament for the first time. If the Tartan Army was an actual military force it would be doomed because it never has the crucial element of surprise. The physical stamina of some of its footsoldiers — beer for breakfast and still going strong at closing time — might give the Paras a run for their money but the “TA” is predictable. It goes to three foreign fields and then the timing of its retreat is known to everyone months in advance. The date of the final group game in a tournament? Scotland will be heading home 24 hours later.

The players, the manager, the opposition and the circumstances change but the end result is always the same. Del Amitri’s Don’t Come Home Too Soon was the official Scotland anthem for France ’98, so that’s how long this narrative has been going on. They have had 12 attempts to get out of an opening group at a tournament and are now on 12 failures. Scotland fans can smile and be self-mocking — no-one does it with more irony and good humour — but it still hurts when it happens like in Stuttgart deep into Sunday night. To moan about “typical Scotland” or “finding yet another way to go out” is too self-absorbed when other countries have their hard-luck stories too. But losing a must-win game in the tenth minute of stoppage time is a new entry in their top ten list of tournament disasters.

The Dons have a new manager for 2024/25. Bo Jimmy Thelin is a Swedish football coach and former player, together with assistants Christer Persson and Emir Bajrami, they've left Allsvenskan side IF Elfsborg to take up the post at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen off to a flying start under Jimmy Thelin's management with Ester Sokler getting a brace in a 0-3 thumping of Queen of the South in the Scottish League Cup. They handily beat Peterhead 0-4 in the pre-season friendly a couple of days earlier.

As for the Blue Toon, they took a 0-5 thrashing from Queen's Park at Balmoor in their Scottish League Cup opener.

Peterhead rescued their season opener at Balmoor with an extra-time winner, 2-1 against visitors Forfar.
