Chelsea 3-0 Middlesbrough
The Chelsea machine rumbles on & they just need 1 victory out of their 3 remaining games to be crowned champions.
Poor Middlesbrough are relegated. They attempted to be a frugal, defensively solid outfit but just lacked any penetration up front. Once the opposition scored, they were out of the game & the points. They have scored the fewest goals of all in the Premiership this season, 26, 10 less than Hull - the side immediately above them.. The defensive side worked, statistically, as they only conceded 48, 21 less than Hull. Unfortunately it just proves that it makes little difference if you lose 1 nil or 5 nil, you still don't get any points!!

Funny that the Championship & Premiership should throw up exactly the same unlikely scenario with 3 games left :-k 8-[ :-$

Southampton 0-2 Arsenal
The Gunners move up to 5th. but it still looks questionable if they can break into the top 4. Still all they can do is carry on winning & hope others stumble.

Wenger has requested that West Ham & Middlesbro both play in the Crystal Palace Strip for the rest of the season :-"

It has seemed an odd season to me for the Premiership, fixture-wise.
Here is everybody else finished & play off games well underway & the Premiership is playing games nearly everyday this week... Strange...

Not especially Alan..
The Russian certainly threw money at the problem in the early days, but even then he was not the first.
While it is just about possible to win the Premiership without spending a small fortune (as Leicester proved last season) it is not easy - as Arsenal have consistently found.
Once it comes to adding in the European scene, though, a large squad of more than competent players is a must if you are going to be competitive in both Europe & your own league.

Conte & Chelsea were somewhat fortunate that they did not have Europe to worry about this year. However he inherited a squad that was not pulling its' weight & didn't when the season started either. So kudos to him for changing their style of play to something that suited who he had on the books & motivating them to pull as a team..

It will be more interesting to see who he has (if, indeed he is still there) & how they do next year with European distractions as well - but, as far as this season is concerned it is a deserved title win...

Chelsea were actually only the 3rd biggest spenders during the 2016/17 season with the two Manchester clubs leading the way.
Looking at the list,Spurs,Liverpool,Bournemouth,Stoke and WBA probably had the best value for money ?
Fans of Crystal Palace and West Ham will be wondering if their money was wisely spent ?
Everton came 7th on the list but their spending was largely funded by the sale of John Stones, otherwise they would have been The Premierships most frugal outfit.
List supplied by The Daily Express.

1.Manchester City 181.05 million GBP
2.Manchester United 157.25
3.Chelsea 112.88
4.Arsenal 96.05
5.Crystal Palace 85.26
6.Leicester 77.44
7.Everton 73.02
8.West Ham 70.98
9.Tottenham Hotspur 70.13
10.Liverpool 67.92
11.Watford 60.31
12.Southampton 58.57
13.Swansea 49.47
14.Middlesborough 44.75
15.Burnley 38.76
16.Bournemouth 34.59
17.Hull 34.00
18.Sunderland 33.92
19.Stoke 32.76
20.West Bromwich Albion 32.22

Last nights results mean that Swansea are almost safe and Hull have to win at Crystal Palace tonight or they will realistically be relegated due to an inferior goal difference.
Manchester City,Liverpool and Arsenal chasing the last 2 Champions League places......Manchester United out of it unless they spring a big surprise at the final match to be played at White Hart Lane tonight.
Crystal Palace v Hull 6pm Thai
West Ham v Liverpool 8.15pm Thai
Spuds v United 10.30pm Thai

Last night.....
Manchester City 2 Leicester 1.......enjoyable game but should Citys first goal have been ruled out for offside ? Bad luck for Leicester, also, with Mahrez's spot kick being ruled void as he inadvertently played the ball twice.
Bournemouth 2 Burnley 1 ; Middlesborough 1 Southampton 2 ; Sunderland 0 Swansea 2 ;
Big,big win for Swansea.....Sunderland booed off at half time and full time.
More easy for Southampton than the score suggests as they missed a penalty.
Bournemouth have had an excellent season and an outside chance they could finish as high as 8th in the table.
Stoke 1 Arsenal 4 ;
Easy for the Gunners......Stokes players dreaming of sunning themselves in Burslem this summer, already.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Last night.....
Crystal Palace 4 Hull 0
West Ham 0 Liverpool 4
Tottenham Hotspur 2 Manchester United 1

Yep,Hull relegated. They conceded after just 2 minutes after a shocking defensive error and that was that. They didn't have a single shot on target and their seasons leading scorer,Snodgrass, signed for West Ham in January.
Manager,Silva, achieved a minor miracle by getting them to win 6 home games since his appointment but,in the end,it wasn't enough.Swansea, under Paul Clement, are a better side and, importantly, have a decent goalscorer in Llorente.

I have to admit I thought West Ham would give Liverpool a good game but they were murdered.Liverpool were very impressive and Coutinho was the star man in an excellent team performance.

Spurs last game at White Hart Lane ended in victory. They, too, were very impressive for the first hour or so until they took their foot off the gas and allowed United back into it.

So,relegation issues sorted.Liverpool and Manchester City red hot favourites to secure the last 2 Champions League places.....looks like their will be nowt to play for on the last day of the season next Sunday.

Tonight.....Chelsea v Watford,2am Tuesday morning Thai.

Last night.....Chelsea 4 Watford 3

Chelsea celebrated their Premier League title triumph with a hard-earned victory over Watford in an ill-tempered but thrilling encounter at Stamford Bridge.
John Terry, who will leave at the end of the season after more than two decades at the club, celebrated his first league start since September by scoring Chelsea's 100th goal in all competitions this term. It came after 22 minutes before he then gifted Watford's Etienne Capoue an instant equaliser with a poor header.
Cesar Azpilicueta restored Chelsea's lead with a crisp finish before half-time and the contest looked over when Michy Batshuayi, who scored the title-winning goal at West Bromwich Albion on Friday, added a third just after the break.
Watford, however, showed commendable fight. Daryl Janmaat's fine solo effort put the visitors within reach before substitute Stefano Okaka, who was given his Italy debut by Chelsea boss Conte, took advantage of defensive uncertainty to slam in an equaliser.
Chelsea, as so often this season, found a way to win as substitute Cesc Fabregas struck from the edge of the area with three minutes left - while Watford's misery was compounded when Sebastian Prodl was sent off for a second yellow card in stoppage time.

Tonight....Arsenal v Sunderland (01.45am Wed Thai) and Man City v WBA (2am Wed Thai).

Last night.....Southampton 0 Manchester United 0
By all accounts not much of a game which was maybe to be expected.Sergio Romero, deputising for the injured David de Gea,saved a 5th minute penalty and made a string of fine saves to keep The Saints at bay.Not surprisingly he was named man of the match and will deputise for de Gea in the Europa League Final in Stockholm next Wednesday.

Tonight.....Leicester v The Spuds,01.45am Friday Thai.

Other Premiership news.......
Walter Mazzarri will leave Watford at the end of the season. This is the 3rd successive time Watford have changed their manager at the end of the campaign. The new manager will become Watfords 9th in the last 5 years and the 8th since the Italian Pozzo family took over the club in 2012.
Pablo Zabaleta is to leave Manchester City after 9 years. The Argentine,32,is considering offers from abroad and other Premiership clubs......decent player,I've always liked him.
