^ I wondered how long it was going to take for the bitter Mag to pipe up. Not long it seems
Was looking for a funny meme to post, but could not find anything in my favour so here is a cartoon of a dog in a bar instead. It's the best I can do.

Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
So, are any Udon Bars showing the England matches, Thai or Falang, is there a fee to pay? In all these years I don't remember missing the World Cup England matches.

Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
From what I read in the Bangkok Post, screening World Cup games for free is sort of embedded in the Thai Constitution. Accordingly the government has started arm-twisting the obscenely mega-wealthy Thai corporate entities like CP, True, etc., to dig deep and pay the obscenely high fees that FIFA demand of the world so that anyone can watch it anywhere in Thailand at any time. I think it will be another '11th hour' sort of drama like the annual pishing contest with the EPL.BillaRickaDickay wrote: ↑November 7, 2022, 4:02 pmSo, are any Udon Bars showing the England matches, Thai or Falang, is there a fee to pay? Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
That sounds hopeful, be good to watch the matches in one of the Falang bars for a bit of atmosphere, not quite the same at home with the family Hillbilly's.tamada wrote: ↑November 7, 2022, 6:43 pmFrom what I read in the Bangkok Post, screening World Cup games for free is sort of embedded in the Thai Constitution. Looks like there is a 4 hour time difference so that could make things difficult for some of the bars for certain matches.

Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
The late Games are 10pm kick-off Doha time which is 2am Thai time. But apart from that all the earlier games are manageable.
I'll be at quite a few of the England games so look for a fat, but handsome, falang wearing his Sunderland shirt in the crowd!

Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
Games should be at 17:00/20:00/23:00/02:00 Thai Time
so one would assume bars will only show the first 3 games a day in the first phase
02:00 games are (those you will need to watch at home with the family hillbillys )
22 Nov USA v Wales
23 Nov France v Australia
24 Nov Belgium v Canada
25 Nov Brazil v Serbia
26 Nov England v USA
27 Nov Argentina v Mexico
28 Nov Spain v Germany
29 Nov Portugal v Uruguay
30 Nov Iran v USA
30 Nov Wales v England
1 Dec Poland v Argentina
1 Dec Saudi Arabia v Mexico
2 Dec Japan v Spain
2 Dec Costa Rica v Germany
3 Dec Serbia v Switzerland
3 Dec Cameroon v Brazil
knock out matches will be at 22:00 and 02:00 Thai time

Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
Thanks for the info, I might just be tempted to buy a TV so I can watch the late matches in my own house, I've not bothered with one before.

You can pick up a small flat screen for about B3000 (cost of 2 small beers a night during the tourny)

Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
Sounds like you have a venue in mind, I've not got a clue these days as it must be nearly 3 years since I ventured out to visit the Falang evening hotspots, I'm guessing some of the old bars no longer exist.
Sunderland? Now there's a team with some lofty history, you must be a real fan, a bit like the Toffees and the Toons, big clubs currently spending a lot of time out in the wilderness.
You could be the only Mak'em in town.

Seven of the Socceroos squad for Qatar play in the Scottish football leagues.

Not so fast soft lad; Sunderland defender Bailey Wright named in Australia's 26-man World Cup squad
So that's 2 of Sunderlands finest already confirmed in WC squads. The mighty black cats leading the way from the lower divisions
I've got a ticket to see Australia vs Denmark. Will be wearing my Sunderland shirt in support of Bailey Wright.
..If I turn up early enough might get a run out

Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
Better sneak that Mackem shirt in down the front of yer strides as they have strict levels on how low you are allowed to sink in Qatar
Have to say having two reps there aint bad ........ thats only about one less than Liverpool (Alison/Van Dick and the evolution)
