Come on 747, you know as well as everyone else that Jimmy Saville only became a Liverpool fan when an Evertonian told him analfield was just like a morgue :-"

They MUST Be MAD........Liverpool have rejected a £30million offer from Crystal Palace for striker Christian Benteke .

The ECHO understands that Palace’s bid amounted to £23m up front with a further £7m to potentially follow in add-ons.

I have to say that I am totally unconvinced that starting the season in early August but allowing the transfer window to remain open until the end of August is anything like a good idea.
Open the window when the season ends, close it immediately it starts.
Same in the winter... Shut the season for a couple/three weeks, allow transfers then only..
This idea of playing games while being permitted to unsettle other teams' players with rumours of bids & moves is just plain silly...

Problem is Bob, can you force EVERY league in Europe (let alone those outside) to start & finish their matches on set dates that would allow a non playing transfer window to operate. There would need to be a lot of infrastructure changes if the likes of the Russian lower leagues (how long is their current winter break 3 months  ) for them to start & finish on the same date as say Serie "B" in Italy :-k

The best I think you may be able to hope for is a ban on transfers in the same country, but with all the global finances involved Joe Bloggs of West Ham would be tranferred to New York and then transferred back to Man City as two international transfers ](*,)

Whilst having a "pondering" 5 mins Bob, what are your opinions on the various "more than 95?" (why they can't say 96 or 97 I dont know =; ) rule changes that come into effect this season.

The obvious one, Kick off, now allows a team to go directly onto defence from the kick off as they only need one player forward as far as the half way line, instead of needing two (with one having to get in their opponents half). Bet Big Sam and Tony Pulis both signed the petition for that one

I have to say that many of the rule changes introduced this year are really just tidying up the books rather than substantial. After all defensive minded teams have never had an issue being defensive under the old rules.. :D
I think that the 'aggression directed towards officials = red card" is well overdue & the sooner a ref actually sends a couple of players off for it the better!!

I think that things like the mega clubs being allowed to have 70 players on the books is actually the sort of thing that should be tackled - but won't be because money talks..

I don't see that differences in country start ups is actually a huge thing in tackling transfer windows. If Russia need 3 months off, so be it. 3 weeks during that 3 months could still be the transfer window without killing anyone. As for the various start times for different countries, so what, we are talking a couple of weeks over a 10 week close season, sort of thing EUFA is , surely, designed to facilitate???

:-k How then would you facilitate a transfer between say CSKA Moscow and Everton. If the window closes before a ball is kicked it would have to close in July before the Russian season started on 25th? July. If it didn't all the teams in Russia would be subject to the problems you are trying to wipe out. They cant start later as they have to allow for a 3 month break due to unplayable piches. :-k

Yes Statts the huge Russian to England transfer market could indeed be put completely at jeopardy by my suggestion!!!

It is, however, interesting to hear that you consider the current 4 week England transfer fiasco in August acceptable...

Edit
Oh the Russian Premier League are currently in their 3rd. game, so hardly an issue!!

I certainly don't find it "acceptable" Bob, I just don't see a way round it.
We could I suppose say to FIFA and all the governing bodies that, we are England, it's our game, so everone else will have to fall in line or we will have a referendum ......that should frighten the hell out of dem johnny foreigners :yikes: :fryingpan:

Nah, going by the last referendum the UK had we would probably propose that Sepp Blatter became head of FIFA to resolve the issue... :D
