Re: Premier League 2017-18
Just an observation here and wondering if others have a view. I used to try and referee at junior level and perhaps have more of an interest in the laws of the game and how referees interpret them. And so to the offside law and players deemed ‘not to be interfering’. I caught Kane’s first goal, I think, for Spurs at West Ham yesterday. Kane is central, clearly the wrong side of defenders by a couple of yards? (without looking at the video again) as the ball is pushed out to another Spurs player on the wing. Kane is not injured, not standing still. Indeed, he sees an opportunity developing and makes for goal, the West Ham defenders now in pursuit. The ‘winger’ runs on and sends over a cross which Kane buries from behind the ball. No problem with that element of the play.
For me, I can’t really grasp how he can be deemed ‘not interfering’ as the ball is played out to the wing and Kane is making ground. Albeit, the referee or assistant may take a few moments to weigh up the situation, but I sense there’d be a reluctance to stop play and award a free kick for offside. Kane is gaining an advantage by having a head start on the defenders. The general principle of the offside rule is surely that players cannot profit from being the wrong side (Unless the presence of two defenders, one of whom is usually the ‘keeper). I don’t know the history, but perhaps we had strikers leaning against the opposition’s posts awaiting the ball’s arrival and players just hoofing it as far forward as they could!
I also think there’s a tendency for forwards to remain the ‘wrong side’ in the hope they’re far enough away from the ball when their team attacks and a referee/assistant deems they were ‘inactive’. I’ve yet to see a supposedly, ‘wrong side’ injured player well away from play make a miraculous recovery as his team suddenly attacks. Would a brave referee award offside or a free kick for unsporting behaviour?
The present interpretation is not perfect, in my view.

Re: Premier League 2017-18
There certainly needs to be a change. Any player in an offside position IS interfering with play ........ the minute the ball is kicked from the kick off they HAVE to be interfering as they are on the pitch.
If I had the chance I would re write the rule .....
ANY player in an offside position when the ball moves forward shall be deemed OFFSIDE and play stopped.
Later in the same game Alii went down in the area, no foul given, so he slowly picks himself up and walks back, meantime the ball has been back to the Spurs pen area and four passes later it, and all the players, pass Alli (about 10 yds outside West Ham Box). Alii then turns and gets involved in play. Unless he was completely invisible (which I believe is unsportsmanlike conduct and therefore illegal) he was in the view of Joe Hart for the whole passage of play so CLEARLY INTERFERRING WITH PLAY and therefore should have been given OFFSIDE as soon as he turned and got involved.
If he wants to get involved again after being too lazy to run back to an onside position then he should be required to put a foot back into his own half of the field before moving forward again (one of the linos will be standing there to check, depending on the play at the time)

Sorry goodison, but it's what we do ........ help the little teams.
We managed to keep Blunderland in the league for about 4 or 5 yrs by giving them 4 or 6 pts a season

We will probably lose next weekend as well ....... helping another of the LITTLE teams (Southampton reserves) :-"

Now, all I see is a bunch of morons with their heads so firmly stuffed up each others ar*es that they have lost track of the REAL WORLD. The thing that amazes me is that the "powers that be" FA/Prem/Police actually listen to these w*nkers.
Statto,
An alternative viewpoint.
The objectors to these racist chanters also included LUKAKU,; his teammates; the Utd Board; the Utd Supporters Club, and all the media outlets which I have watched/listened to, discussing the topic. So also Morata, Conte, and a spokes person on behalf of the Chelsea FC have spoken out against exactly similar, (although anti-Semitic) chanting.
Are we really to accept your contention that, like the 'powers that be" all these people are also just "a bunch of morons with their heads stuffed up their ar'ies...out of touch with the real world" The past history of the world, and ongoing events all around the REAL WORLD TODAY, would suggest the exact opposite is the truth, and that these people should be admired, not be the objects of undeserved vindictiveness.
It is my contention that it is those people who justify aligning themselves with the Racist Chanters at Utd,, and the Anti-Semitic Chanters at Chelsea on the grounds it is simply harmless banter, who are out of touch with the REAL WORLD , NOT as you state, those who object to such behaviour. Finally,to state the obvious there can be no such thing as 'racist banter' or 'anti-Semitic banter', since both are clearly oxymorons.
Have a nice day.
Mat.

Re: Premier League 2017-18
Yeah right ......
"Former United star Paul Ince has disputed the fact it’s offensive and told Paddy Power: “Personally, I don’t think the chant is racist.
“I honestly think it’s a group of fans that have got carried away and did not expect the backlash they have got. I’d say it’s just a bit of fun, that’s got out of control now.
“For a player to hear that sung about themselves, I do think they’d think it was amusing, a bit of a laugh. If this chant was being sang at me when I was playing, I would just laugh it off and that would be it.
“Fans have sung chants for years and far worse than that in my time, though I suppose a lot of them would have never been heard because of social media.
“I don’t think Romelu Lukaku would say it was racist.”
In fact the ones who ARE being racist are the guys at "Kick it out" It is them after all (not the fans or the song) that have made the reference to the size of his P**** having anything whatsoever to do with the colour of his skin

Re: Premier League 2017-18
I can see arguments on both sides. Yes, there are chants which are really offensive and unacceptable. At the same time, I'd hate football to loose the banter and humour, which is often hilarious and clever.
In everyday life, there were words and terms which were commonplace and used without any intention of causing offence, but are now frowned upon. I feel there's quite a percentage fed up with the elements/groups dictating what one can do and say, reaching the ridiculous.

Re: Premier League 2017-18
Just a thought,
If they get CCTV footage of someone "singing" the song, and that person states in court under oath that he was not singing (only miming) how can they find him guilty of being racist, or is it now illegal to think in a football ground? ........ (not for Jonjo Shelvey to answer).
If these "groups" had been about 50 years ago virtually every joke in every TV comedy show would have been banned as sexist/racist/or something elseist ..........
On the buses ..... Service suspended

Mind you on the bright side I wouldn't have had to sit through the Black & White Minstrel show

"However as there is International stuff next weekend, get your fix in while you can..
"
and then we can all return to normality for a couple of weeks before "THE INTERNATIONAL BREAK"
Time has now come for someone to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Cancel European Championships/Africa Cup of nations etc etc immediately.
World cup played every FOUR years with qualifying spread over all 4 years.
FIFA rankings to determine when a country enters the competition with the top 32 nations joining the remaining 32 from pre qualifying in a worldwide knockout (8 groups of 8 played in the two years prior to the world cup).
This would have the added advantage that nearly all these matches would become "meaningful" and thus avoid so many "bad back" or "sore groin" withdrawals from an away match in Andorra etc.
During the Pre qualifying two year period, there would be NO International breaks for the main leagues, so teams with players from Gibralter/Papua New Guinea/Malta/Scotland and other minnows would have to get by without those players required to play for their country in much the same way as African cup of Nations players do currently.
As All the competition would have a "worldwide" draw, no advantage could be gained from being Asian/Australasian/African etc so no backhanders to play in another group or have extra places in the final for any particular continent. If the likes of Iran/Japan/Korea/Nigeria/Togo/Jamaica are good enough they will get to the finals, not because we have to have x many countries from Africa or South America etc etc

Broken ribs.....he'll do well to be back in 4 weeks.....wishing him well, even though he plays for Citeh !
City also missing Kompany and Mendy for tonights big clash with Chelsea.
Sergio Agüero is facing the prospect of a substantial lay-off after reportedly suffering broken ribs after the Manchester City striker was involved in a car crash in Amsterdam on Thursday night.
City confirmed in a statement on their website on Friday morning that Agüero had “sustained injuries” after the taxi in which he was travelling crashed into a pole in the Dutch capital. Agüero himself spoke to Radio Metro de Argentina from hospital and said: “The taxi driver did not see the curve and skid. And when he skidded, we hit him with the pole.
“I broke my rib, now I'm resting. It hurts me badly. I'll be discharged in a little while.” (Daily Telegraph)
