Clearly, not everything is bright sunshine at Selhurst. There were factors contributing to Palace's awful second half of last season (except the FA Cup run). Palace just got away with avoiding relegation, but that's a recent memory too.
And Now Brian, It Looks like Palace have given up on signing Benteke.....Damn !!

David Moyes says Lamine Kone has refused a new, improved deal at Sunderland and "arrived in this morning with a bad back."

Ah well I suppose that means he won't be able to pass a medical at Everton if he's got a bad back, and as he doesn't want a new contract at Sunderland I presume he is more than happy to play all season on his old wages :-"

Friday 19th August 2016 Premier League

Man Utd 2-0 Southampton
All too easy for United. Zlatan scored twice, one from the spot though. He looks like the best free transfer of the season. Against anything but the very best defenders he will score goals.
The most expensive signing eased his way into the Premiership with a fair display that will improve as his fitness does.
For any United fan though the best thing has been a desire to get the ball forward. More of that has been evident in the first 2 games than in the whole of the last season. :D
United have had a rather easy start to the season though &, in theory, that continues in their next game - which is away to Hull.
The first test of how good they actually are comes after the International break when they will face Citi at Old Trafford in a Saturday lunchtime kickoff..

Yes, comfortable for United but Southampton did Ok up to the daft penalty.
Great header from Zlatan..... Pogba did well and Shaw getting better with every game..... the defense still a little uncertain at times, though.
For tonight's entertainment I will go for Stoke v Citeh at 6.30pm Thai then plump for The Spuds v Palace at 9pm (4-0 on IKTS, sorry Brian )
Probably asleep for the late kick off..... still not fully fit after Euro 2016,statto !!
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Zid you are a total disgrace to your profession, the Euros finished 6 weeks ago, you and everyone else were perfectly aware when the League started (and that is NOT this week or next week). If you can't be trusted to be ready to do the work you are being paid for then you are banned from going on these summer jollies in future. Get a grip man ..... two bottles of M150 after the spuds game and it will help you make it through the night (that would work in a song :-k ) It's not like you have an LvG team in the late game

I think that his wages are probably more than most clubs could afford in transfer fees, so he is hardly "free" Bob. Jury still out until he plays and scores against a few more AVERAGE defenders. He's at an age where knocks will take longer to heal as well. :-k

a quote from Benteke

"I’m very happy to commit my future to Crystal Palace and I’m looking forward to meeting the manager, the players and the staff."

Interesting that ....... most players say that such and such a manager convinced me with his plans and visions for the club going forward ........... may be another sign that Pards is nearing the end of his tenure :-k

His wages will be whatever his wages will be - whether a transfer fee of £89 million or £1. The fact is he cost nothing in transfer fees - hence a free transfer!! :D
As to if he can score against the very best defenders, Champions League football suggests he can.
&, currently in the EPL he won't be coming up against anything better than an AVERAGE defender for most weeks of the season.. :D

Finding a defender who is anything above average in world football is, I think, like trying to find a test cricket batsman that can stay at the crease all day without trying to play one reverse sweep

I suppose the situation is summed up by the reports that Wenger is trying to buy Jonnie Evans for Arsenal =; ](*,)

KOEMAN: LUKAKU IS STAYING

Everton fans, some very good news for you: Ronald Koeman has said that Romelu Lukaku will be staying at the club this summer.

There has been speculation that the striker could be leaving Goodison but, writing in his column in Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Toffees boss Koeman says that will not be the case.

"Ten days before the transfer deadline he came into the manager's office and said he was no longer leaving and had decide to stay at Everton," writes Koeman.

"His decision is the same value as a big money transfer. He is not only a good player but a fine person. He lives his football in the fashion that you would want a top footballer to.

"It is great to work with him and I think he had seen that we want to engineer improvement at every corner. To develop him into a really top player is the challenge before me."
