Damning statistics of Van Gaals season at United......and more to come ??
13
- First halves United have failed to score in at Old Trafford this season
A quite staggering statistic that gets more absurd with every dull opening 45 minutes that passes under Van Gaal's management. Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester City, Middlesbrough, CSKA Moscow, West Brom, PSV Eindhoven, West Ham, Norwich, Chelsea, Swansea, Sheffield United and now Southampton have all emerged unscathed from the first 45 minutes in all competitions.
1
- Goals scored by United players in the first half of a home Premier League game in 2015/16
Credit, of sorts, to Memphis Depay, who netted in the 45th minute against Sunderland on 26 September. A 22nd-minute Kyle Walker own goal in the opening game of the season against Tottenham was one of just three goals scored by any team in the first half at Old Trafford this season - a quite appalling strike rate for fans starved of any sort of entertainment.
1.22
- Goals per game is United's worst average ratio in the Premier League era
For a club synonymous with free-flowing, attacking football, Van Gaal's current stodgy gameplan is bordering on heresy. To put their current miserable return in context, United supporters saw their side score an average of 2.55 goals per game in the 1999/00 season, when the club were reigning European champions and runaway Premier League winners.
35
- Shots United have had shots on target at home this season
That is the lowest total for any club, not just in the Premier League but also the entire Football League. Not only are United not scoring, they're not getting into any sort of position to score or even shoot at goal. And on their own turf too.
49.2%
- Van Gaal has the worst win percentage of any United boss in the Premier League era
The full list makes for grim reading for Van Gaal:
Ferguson: 65.2 per cent over 810 games.
Moyes: 50 per cent over 34 games.
Ryan Giggs: 50 per cent over four games (interim appointment).
Van Gaal: 49.2 per cent over 61 games.
28
- United have scored fewer goals at this stage only eight times in 138 years
Across the club's entire storied history, in only eight seasons have United scored fewer goals after 23 matches than the total managed so far:
1973/74 - 20
1972/73 - 21
1893/94 - 24
1906/07 - 24
1921/22 - 25
1968/69 - 26
1930/31 - 27
1989/90 - 27
1970/71 & 2015/16 - 28
6
- Total goals by Wayne Rooney, United's top Premier League goalscorer this season
Of United's rivals for a Champions League spot, Jamie Vardy is the leading scorer for table-topping Leicester City with 16 goals; Sergio Aguero has 12 for Manchester CIty despite struggling for large parts of the season with injury; Olivier Giroud also has 12 for Arsenal; and Harry Kane has netted 13 times for Tottenham, who have a five-point lead over United in fourth place.
8
- Games in which United have failed to score this season
Newcastle, Arsenal, Manchester City, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Stoke City, Chelsea, Southampton. United have failed to score against them all. With 15 games still to go, this is already United's worst number of blank scoresheets in the Premier League era.
Throw in another two 'nils' against Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup and PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League and that makes 10 goalless games in 34.
27
- Years since United had lost at home against Southampton
But then Van Gaal came along, and the club have lost the fixture twice in succession. Manchester United 0-1 Southampton is the only scoreline the Dutchman has managed, in two attempts, against the Saints at Old Trafford. The last time Southampton won back to back games there was in 1969 - 47 years ago.

Nothing to do with being cheated, when your winning 2-1 from the first leg then go 1-0 up in the second leg you should be able to go on to win or at least hold onto the lead, ive seen stevie wonder hold onto a lead better than everton

[quote="Zidane"]Damning statistics of Van Gaals season at United......and more to come ??
[Are you perhaps suggesting you think LvG should depart? :confused : Although he is somewhat less subtle, and certainly more succinct than you!
Seriously, I stand by my previously expressed opinion that , given the appropriate circumstances, Guardiola will become Utd's next Permanent Manager. The major of these being that Utd achieve a Champions League spot. Why else would Guardiola delay accepting what are rumoured to be, and almost certainly are, unprecedented terms, of a most lucrative nature, currently on offer from City.
It is painfully obvious to the world at large, (including it seems LvG! ), the chance of achieving even that minimum target will be lost, (along with Guardiola), within the course of the next three games, unless VERY drastic but realistic changes are made IMMEDIATELY/FORTHWITH/ or, at the very least, NOW !
So, sack LvG, and the equally responsible and disastrous Woodward; work out whatever deal it takes to bring back the latters predecessor as Director of Football, for say, six months or install Ferguson either in that position, or as "Football Consultant" . Appoint Gary Neville as Interim Manager, with Giggs & Scholes as his "Assistants", until the end of the current season, with the top priority task of achieving a Champions League spot, to be rewarded with a bonus of appropriate proportions; although these three Utd legends would almost certainly undertake the task for nothing. =D>
Any of you Utd fans have a better suggestion? :-"

Please, Please Wenger, grab Gary Cahill, TODAY!! Also, at least TRY to land Ighalo

Just to take all the glory away on transfer deadline day....
Not much of a surprise really, bit mean towards Pellegrini though - who I don't think Citi have treated very fairly... mind you the owners there already have a bit of a rep. for that anyway!!!!Guardiola to become new Man City boss

Hmmm.....City still in with a decent shout of winning the EPL and FA Cup plus they will be favourites to make it to the last 8 of the UEFA Champions League.
Look well if Pellegrini guides them to a treble,eh......certainly they must have a good chance of lifting the 2 domestic trophies ?

And if you are really lucky Zid, Pelligrini won't even have to change his accommodation, when taking up his next appointment! Mind boggling to think of the billions certain to be being scattered around in the close season, as the two mega rich Manchester Clubs vy with each other for EPL supremacy; and jointly, under the banner of the City of Manchester, battle the City of Madrid, (Barca & Real), for European Club supremacy . Football wise, looking like hard times head for the cities of Liverpool & London.Zidane wrote:Hmmm.....City still in with a decent shout of winning the EPL and FA Cup plus they will be favourites to make it to the last 8 of the UEFA Champions League.

United actually score a first half goal at Old Trafford & shock their spectators by playing attractive, attacking football - vanG is obviously sickening for something & has taken his foot off the pedal..

Much, much better at Old Trafford last night ! Two goals in the first half....double the seasons tally in just one match !
The fans must be thinking it is all a dream.
Man of the match, undoubtedly Martial who has been one of the bright lights in a dismal season so far.
So 3 goals in each of the last two matches for United. What has brought about this transformation ? LVG's tactical genius ? No,its since I forwarded 747mans pic of Beyonce to Uniteds AON training complex that the players seem to have found an extra gear and an extra leg from somewhere !
Elsewhere its great to see Leicesters great run continuing, also an excellent win for Bournemouth at Palace who have certainly gone off the boil in the league recently,Brian.
Its looking grim for Sunderland and not so great for Norwich who came up against a Spurs side who are playing lovely football,at the moment.
If Newcastle win at Everton tonight it will send Norwich into the bottom 3.I've seen Newcastle a couple of times and they look too good to be relegated but how many times has that been said over the years !
The mid table clash between Watford and Chelsea :-" tonight completes the midweek fixtures.

Squeaky arse time for Newcastle. Everton's first home league win since November and we created only one clear cut chance with Mitrovic heading yards wide with an eight yard header. 29 million spent and still nonsense.
