Football World Cup Qualifiers for SA 2010

Post by BobHelm » September 7, 2008, 9:24 am

Well hardly a grand performance by England (I didn't see have only read) but a win is a win. 2-0 away to Andorra :D
Scotland pretty poor start, 1-0 away defeat to Macedonia. (From memory didn't they cause England some problems in Euro 2008 qualifying?? or the last World Cup qualifiers)
Good result by Republic of Ireland 2-1 away to Georgia
Northern Ireland will be disappointed that they lost 2-1 away to Slovakia.
Wales will be happy with a win - even if it was only 1-0 against the mighty Azerbaijan. :D

Shock result of the round for me??? Austria 3-1 France - heads will roll I think... :D

I didnt see the game also. Two second half goals from Joe Cole secured the victory.
Croatia away in midweek......I'd gladly settle for a draw there.
I think weve played Macedonia the last two Euro Qualifiers (2004-2008) and been held to a draw at home each time. The last time I think we were lucky not to have lost.
Yes,a very good result for Eire.My gran was from Cork so I always watch for their result.
France, poor result,a fading team as was the case in Euro 2008.One more slip and a change of coach,I reckon.

I think after the Croatia game we will have a better idea of the "New England" or "Same Old England." [-o<
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Ah, Dutch goalie sent off just about on half time & an "iffy" penalty given for it... :D
But, correct, still a good result... :D :D

Yes a good result. On that sort of form we Aussies (as a football team) should make it to the world cup, no worries.

And if they do, lets hope they don't draw Italy again.I could not stand losing to a bad refereeing decision again! 8) [-X

Could be right Zidane..
France coach Raymond Domenech will be sacked if his side do not beat Serbia on Wednesday after they suffered a shock defeat by Austria. (Daily Mail)
But that is the Mail..... :D

Well I am amazed & delighted...
Croatia 1-4 England
Iceland 1-2 Scotland
Montenegro 0-0 Rep of Ireland
Russia 2-1 Wales
Northern Ireland 0-0 Czech Republic
Good night for England,Scotland & Northern Ireland. Republic & Wales will be disappointed.
France managed to win France 2-1 Serbia. Surprise of the round to me Portugal 2-3 Denmark.

Yes,who would have believed England could go to Zagreb and win 4-1 and that Theo Walcott would score a hat trick ! :D
Probably our best result since we beat Germany 5-1 seven years ago.Michael Owen scored a hat trick that day and the centre forward on both these occassions was Emile Heskey !
England look nicely in control of the Group now.South Africa 2010 looking well within their grasp.
Capello has a nice selection problem when Steven Gerrard is fit again.

Excellent result for the Scots winning in Iceland. They are in a group with no easy games and certainly needed to win after Saturday.
So what a difference one result can make to both England & Scotland.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

What was also good was that we can watch the game live.

A lot of people in the UK are not happy about the broadcasting of away fixtures only being available on Santana. Most people in the UK have seen only very limited highlights.

Also moving one step closer to World cup qualification, Australia 1-0 over Uzbekistan.

With results like that Australia must be considered a dark horse in SA 2010 !!! \:D/

Germany 1 England 2 :D
OK this was a pretty meaningless friendly, and one that the clubs wished their players could do without, but it was an excellent win for a young England side who, apparently, dominated the match.
England were missing Ferdinand,Ashley Cole,Gerrard,Lampard,Joe Cole,Walcott,Rooney and Heskey but the performance of their understudies means that they are not all automatically assured of a swift return to the team.......the likes of Beckham and Owen pushed even further down the pecking order.
Englands goals were scored by Matthew Upson and John Terry. Its about a year since England were eliminated from the Euro 2008 qualifiers by Croatia at Wembley and Steve McClaren was sacked. What a difference a year makes and there is now ever growing optimism about Capello's reign. :D
Other results involving the home countries....
Scotland 0 Argentina 1
Denmark 0 Wales 1
N.Ireland 0 Hungary 2
Eire 2 Poland 3

A good result for England but I never get too excited about these friendlies.
It would have been nice to see a forward player scoring a goal instead of 2 defenders. Never mind they all count
Good luck England 8-[

This three legged dark horse held the current World Cup Holders to 0-0 with 30 seconds to go before extra time. Only to be robbed by a professional "dive".

Australia now so far undefeated in their qualifying group after 1-0 against Bahrain in Bahrain.

Guus Hiddink was the Aussie coach in the Word Cup. A master coach or manager as you pom's would say.
Wishin he would come back for 2010. [-o< [-o<

Saint, I appreciate your sarcasm at the moment, I really can. But this post subject is... Football World Cup Qualifiers for SA 2010.

It is not about who is going to win it !!! It IS about who is possibly going to qualify.

Please put your reading glasses on. :-" :-" :-"

In 2006 Australia played 1 less game than your England team. And we had :censored: Brazil in our qualifying group.

While Emile Heskey was scoring for Aston Villa, England manager Fabio Capello was busy eyeing the talent on an Italian game show. :-k :-k :-k
