Heres my predictions,made on another thread on 21st January......no need to change them !

As for my predictions for the cricketing World Cup.....
I think Australia must start favourites with the competition being on home soil and with them having several potential match winners both with bat and ball.
My second choice would be South Africa who are a good side but have never really lived up to their potential in this competition.Amla and Steyn are top class performers and earlier this week AB de Villiers smashed 100 in just 31 balls against the West Indies as South Africa amassed 439-2.
de Villiers once took a holiday in England when he was young and the England selectors certainly missed a trick by not signing him up !
Cant really see beyond those two,to be honest.Two out of Sri Lanka,Pakistan and India potential semi finalists but nothing more.
New Zealand have McCullum and the West Indies Gayle who can both win matches on their day.They might both cause the odd upset but cant see that either side has a realistic chance of winning the competition.
England.....well they should beat Scotland,Afghanistan and,hopefully,Bangladesh but anything beyond the quarter finals would be a huge bonus.

You are probably not far out with your first guess Wazz

The Sud Africans might give you a run for your money but it would take something very unusual for 1 of the sub-continent sides to win on non sub-continent pitches.
England just don't have the batting consistency to win it, but do have players who could cause a surprise or two on their day...

The West Indies still look like a long way to go from their warm up game against England the other day!!
The co-hosts are a bit too reliant on Brendon to win it, I think, but no one will be happy to face him in a 1 off knock out situation either..

I'm actually in the tropical oasis of Petchabun from 14-17 February so I'm afraid I will miss Australias shaky start to the tournament !

But,maybe,Friday 20th New Zealand v England or Saturday 28th New Zealand v Australia as an alternative for me,wazza and Bob more than welcome of course ! Plus any other cricket fans,naturally.
Nice to meet up with some more English fans and share a few tinnies with cultured Australians......

I'm not sure that there are any great teams in this tournament. The Aussie team is ok but nothing compared to the teams that won three cups in a row from 1999. The kiwis have a couple brilliant batsmen, McCullum and Williamson and decent bowlers in Boult, Vettori and Southee, add Guptill, Ronchi (isn't he a bloody sandgroper?) and Ross Taylor and they look ok. And of course there are the perennial chokers from Africa with the best batsmen ever AB De Villiers and the best bowler ever Dale Steyn. They should waltz in. They have won the last two test series in Australia and if they weren't South Africa they would be odds on. But alas they are expected to flop. I really do love watching AB bat. He's up there with the best I have seen (Glichrist, Sewag, Lara, Ponting, Sir Viv, Javed Miandad) and for him I'd be happy to see the Africans win it.
A word of warning on the wickets. All summer long in the Shield and in the test series the wickets have been slow and low (well not Brisbane) by Australian standards. Subcontinental TV ratings are pretty important to the success of the tournament. I'd love to see the fast bouncy late summer wickets that should be everywhere in Australia by this time of year. It would give the Aussies and the Africans the best chance of winning but I think we'll see them batsmen friendly, that is, for Kholi and Sangakara.
Aussies will beat the Africans in a semi final with a run out on the last ball of the game as the ghost of Hansie Cronje forever cries as he watches on. And we'll play the Kiwis in the final at The G with Trevor Chappell nowhere to be seen. Aussies will win.

Presumably they would prefer not to play any of the games on a friday as it is mosque day

When muslims have to pray a certain number of times every day,does it slow down play whether bowler running in,batsman or players in the outfield in unison stopping play

The drinks break or a fall of a wicket should enable any religious players to do their thing $\:D/$

According to former South African test skipper,Clive Rice,Bob Woolmer and also another ex South African skipper,Hansie Cronje,were murdered !
Certainly not the gentlemans game of our youth,anymore.

Former South Africa captain Clive Rice has said that Bob Woolmer and Hansie Cronje were murdered.
In an interview to http://www.cricketcountry.com, the 63-year-old said, “I have no doubt whatsoever (that they were murdered). Around the time of Woolmer’s death, there were occasions when the entire Pakistan team were all out caught. All dismissals in an innings caught. What are the odds (of that happening)? It has happened very rar-ely in the history of the game.
“There were statements made after Bob’s death. First, we heard that the trachea had been damaged. Then we were told of a heart attack. How does a doctor say trachea damage first and then heart attack? It would have been disgraceful for the image of the World Cup organisers if a murder was revealed. We in South Africa made a mistake. We should have performed an autopsy on his body when it arrived in the country.”
Woolmer, the former England all-rounder, was coach of the Pakistan team when he was found dead in his hotel room in Jamaica under mysterious circumstances during the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies. It was suspected that Woolmer was killed as he had more knowledge about match-fixing and that he was planning to bring it out in the form of a book.
On Cronje’s death in an air crash in 2002, Rice said, “In Cronje’s case, the automated take-off and landing signals were switched off at the airports. I play golf with one of the judges, and got the final case report from him. I sent the report to a friend of mine who deals with air crashes in his official capacity. He told me how the signals had been switched off. In that respect, the case report was very fishy indeed.”
Cronje was South Africa’s widely-respected captain before he was banned for life for his role in match-fixing.

I have my fingers crossed that Scotland and Afghanistan knock England over Zids. The English media would dine out on that for ages without any encouragement from Rups. If that doesn't happen then I'd like the English to beat the Aussies as it's not like the Aussies are going to get an inferiority complex if that happens.

Then the English media could assert this is a pay-back from Prince Phillip for all the fuss he has endured for being given a knighthood from a drongo captain's call.

I dont think people appreciate what a powerhouse Australia is becoming on the world stage !

The tournament proper starts on Friday with New Zealand v Sri Lanka in Christchurch.

Shane Warne, who obviously struggles to keep it in his trousers, would be a very easy victim if he was still playing. We'd then be pleading with marjamlew not to post a photo of a naked Warnie too pleased to see some young lass.

Of the nations that normally play at the 'top end' of cricket, only Bangladesh and Zimbabwe would appear to have a worst chance of winning it..
