Would appreciate any info relating to buying a new car here in Udon Thani. I was told that there is NO negotiation on the sticker price. Does any one know if that is true or if true only for certain makes and models?
I have compared prices that I saw online in Bangkok to what I was told here and Bangkok is a lot cheaper. Any experiences of folks going to another place to buy a new car?
The US has KBB.com and another that I can't remember where a person can go online to check what the normal/average price of a vehicle is in your area. Does anything like that exist here in Thailand?
Also, in the US a person can buy the previous years leftover (unsold and still new) cars and get a real good deal. Is that possible here in Thailand?
Thanks,
Ed

I bought new last year, when the dealership told me the price I left the showroom, by the time i was driving off they knocked 150,000 off, the next week he called me came to see me and in total dropped 160,000.

Negotiate a bit mangon...shop around, sure they will want to do a deal, show them the color of your money....if no deals on price get extras in with the deal..be firm, be tough...don't be a Salemans dream.

When I was going to buy second-hand I used to buy those big glossy car magazines in SE-ED. Only 40 Baht at least that is what they used to be. Also if you go to http://www.thaicar.com/en_index.asp you can search for trucks/cars and get an idea of what prices to expect. http://bahtsold.com/ Also http://classifieds.thaivisa.com/automotives-vehicles/
Play (at least) 2 dealers off each other. I went to Nissan and got a print out on their offer including details of all the extras. I went to Ford and they matched the extras. They both kept ringing me asking me was I buying. Key thing is take your time. Competition is stiff and they want your money so haggle until you cannot push them anymore. I think I drove those 2 poor girls in Nissan and Ford mad with demands.

Lets us know how you get on Ed.
Re: buying new cars
i believe same as everywhre. the more options, the more negotiable. remember when working at car dealer in rental department. was offered new car, my pick with any options, had to pay of course. but rule of thumb was, options cost dealer 1/2 of what was quoted on the window, so at the time, that was your negotiable items. unfortunitely it was a ford dealershipe, before their partnership w/mazda, so with the exception of the F150 truck, they made nothing but sh*t at the time, so i passed.
buying and entry level non option vehicle, they won't budge much, if any on price. when looking for 1st car way back when, interested in entry leve no opton toyota vios, showed a camry and 150 k was knocked off without me even asking. tho this was loaded up with everything and mid way thru the sales season.
so negotiations possible, depending what you are buying and options. good luck to all.
