GO Wholesale

Post by tamada » December 7, 2024, 4:26 pm

Central's wholesale supermarket coming soon. That should give Makro/CP a run for their satangs.

North ring, just west of the railroad crossing, opposite side from Tool Pro and PTT. That will make for another perilous u-turn!!

Not surprised, it's a FB link and not my forte. Try this one?

Opened on 17th January. at least 50% bigger than Makro, very spacious, clean. Still lots of floorspace not being used, quite a few small shops/stalls inside. Only a few white goods.

Whats for sale? Similar to Makro, some items the same, some not. Prices - some higher than Makro, some lower, a few good buys definitely available - e;g.

Potatoes 29 baht a kilo

I kg block cheddar 267 baht (nearly 100 baht less than Makro)

Some Frozen fruit and veg ceaper, but didnt look at that to much.

You need to be a member, easy to sign up; can pay for purchases with most credit card (I think)

Worth a visit.

If it would help, a bigger line of products Maybe something like Costco offers. Maybe not as big but more selection could help

What did you want that you found more expensive and where do you find it cheaper?

Too big for what? Does that mean empty spaces? Or just too spread out to walk around?

Yes way too big and far too much empty space - imagin Makro but spead over twice the area
As for cost, the things 'er indoors was looking for were all cheaper in the Chinese - both in town and out by the airport

I find food shopping immensely boring now and will opt out of it, if I can. But I did accompany wife here. We all have different likes/dislikes. Personally, I liked the newness of Go, clean, bright and spacious. Makro's aisles often blocked by a fork lift, piles of boxes for restocking. Go appears to have the aircon sorted, particularly in the fish area. I didn't come out smelling like I'd been on a Deadliest Catch trawler for a week! I haven't been in Ngee Soon for some time. Yes, sure the prices are pretty good, but both outlets pretty scruffy - maybe offering a lot of Thai/Asian goodies, but not very good for westerners?

cheese seems much cheaper..

I did the circumnaviagation of the entire GO store to get a feel for what is where. Nary a nugget of dog food in the place. Employees asked stated no pet food is stocked...

I is larger than MAKRO and with my bouncing neurons I'll have to do several return visits just to roam about to figure out where everything is located.

Bakery had some breads and rolls not found in MAKRO.

Rather an afterthought here. Probably a comparison of Ngee Soon as a supermarket is unfair. Unless things have changed in the long time I haven't been there, my recollection(certainly at the ring road branch) was that zero fresh produce(fruit, veg, meat, fish) was on offer. 50 boxes of MaMa noodles, no problem.

A day late - better late than never. Not much to add to what is above.

But it's good to see my breathless fan club is standing by, hanging off my every word. 🤣

Bigger, brighter and better set out than Makro, but otherwise - except for the ability to use a credit card - not much different. Prices similar, and seem to have a larger range of imported foods, particularly Japanese. Bakery was a non-event if looking for decent bread.

The live seafood is quite impressive, along with the discount tickets at about 3%, though the pet food is a few weeks away

In my posts all fees and requirements are the standard R&R but TIT and a brown envelope can make incredible changes YMMV.

A further update - the premium croissants @35 baht are pretty good, particularly compared to the Big C equivalent.

Big C bakery? That's not a very high bar. How does Go compare with Makro's faux patiserie et boulangier?

Patisserie - very little.

Bread - meh! ....... see my initial report.

Other than the croissants, Big C a clear winner, from both Go and Makro (IMO).
