Villa Market on the move?
Re: Villa Market on the move?
Went shopping at their Landmark store last night. They seem to be playing second fiddle to the new store. All produce has been removed.
The bread's were sparse. Bought a loaf that had a date on it of 5/09. Tried it this morning, looked ok but tasted moldy. In the bin it goes.
On my last visit upon checkout I noticed the premium ice creams were 2 for 1, so bought some on a impulse (without checking the expiration date as I normally do). Got them home and then noticed they were THREE MONTHS past their expiration date. Took them back and they gave me a store credit.
Not the first time I've found expired food there. Hope the new store is better about rotating out their old stock.

For all you Bagel lovers out there... Villa UD Town just received a shipment of fresh Bagels...about 8 different varieties. Three Bagels per bag. 70 THB per bag.
Get 'em while you can.

Today in Villa. 2ltr flagons of Australian wine, red and white for just 278bht each.
. No idea what they are like but bear in mind that's just 70bht a standard bottle size and don't expect too much, they must be the cheapest plonk in town .

Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

Brought the red wine on Saturday, I quite enjoy it for the price.

Re: Villa Market on the move?
Am I reading that correctly......฿299 as the regular price..???
Re: Villa Market on the move?
At 278 Bahtfor 2 liters I make it 97.3 Baht for a Standard 70cl bottle.
Still very cheap & must be worth trying.
It looks like the standard price 12345 as I can not see any signs on the photo saying special offer.

Thanks...... 278 / 299 ....... close enough, not worthy a special trip into town, as only need a P.O. run, and can wait till Sat......seem to have plenty there.
If good to drink......cool, if marginal, then something to cook with. Need a red handy.
Anyone tested the white yet .. ???

Visited today for the first time and quiet impressed with a few items etc.
Parking is the major benefit. They got 1250 B from my visit.
Their imported beef is the most expensive in Udon.
Prime Australian Beef at Tops cheaper.

Re: Villa Market on the move?
with the close-by parking and easy road access its worth a weekly trip for us to check on specials....

Re: Villa Market on the move?
Yes had a couple of glasses today with a lasagne for my lunch. Its obviously a blend as I couldn't detect any hint of the grapes used, but having said that its a quite pleasant, what I would call a barbecue wine, that is, not one to serve with a special, at the table meal, but would certainly go down well at an informal barbeque gathering where a mix and match of the tastes doesn't normally matter.I would rate it as value for money considering the cost. Will try the red tomorrow and if it is just as pleasant back to Villa for some more whilst it lasts.Just remembered it is rather on the dry side.12345 wrote:Thanks...... 278 / 299 ....... close enough, not worthy a special trip into town, as only need a P.O. run, and can wait till Sat......seem to have plenty there.

Re: Villa Market on the move?
Good advice on quality vs price etc.
2 Major Supermarket chains in Oz have relabelled blended wines under their own spiffy label etc. Buy bulk wholesale cask wine and bottle it etc...
Labels when you google then dont have a vineyard.
Tesco on the Ring Road has many Oz wines but their own.label / sticker has been placed over the original label.
I bought a bottle.of Oz Shiraz in BKK soi 8 recently in a restaurent there..on special 599. Never heard of the label but gave it a try. Pretty average. Googled it and as above no vineyard or.property listed just online sales and marketing stuff. You can even create your own label for what ever the occassion is etc.
Penfolds in Oz have the screw tops but in SE Asia the cork is still used for their marketing. Research showing no
changes to the quality or taste etc. Just the Frogs trying to.prop up their exports...

Re: Villa Market on the move?
must have been pretty bad around there before: drug gangs shooting it out in the car park, thai youth bashing/stabbing/shooting random farang, corrupt officials selling land deeds in the toilets, customers parking their cars on the shopping roofs,etc..
but is ok now counted five security just wandering through so that'll fix 'em
three of stood their and watch for 15 minutes as i ate my just bought breakfast on an outside seat.
if villa prices seem high compared to same products elsewhere you know why.

You forgot to include MH 370 and Area 51.
Meanwhile back on track at Villa 2 and the discussions on the new location and products provided etc...
