I went to the market for the first time on Wednesday. I was impressed. Like pienmash points out there were many American brands that I am familar with. I went looking for ground cloves and ground ginger and found them. I also found Bisquick, around $8 a box but invaluable for a chicken recipe that we enjoy from our days in the USA. I found their prices for regular items that I buy at Lotus Tesco to be around 3 to 10 baht higher. However the selection of falang foods far exceeds Lotus Tesco and, in my opinion, Topps. I do not envision a need for me to go to Topps again.

If you just don't wish to pay that for Bisquick, here is a link to a very close, make your own, alternative:

http://www.food.com/recipe/homemade-bisquick-mix-69051

Looks to be considerably cheaper than $8 a box!!! (even if you use Crisco, at it's crazy cost here) :)

TOTALLY IMPARTIAL NOW as CC is consigned to the history books more or less .... but..... i did buy a small pack of Aussie beef burgers .... they were expensive , looked good ,,, sadly bloody terrible even Bisto mi dog wouldnt eat em but his soi dog mate Gonzo did ....CCCs 100% Angus burgers are the way to go IMO , not cheap but cock on

No issues with parking as i left mi bike running !!! for a quick getaway . will nip back n pay tomorrow !

Villa has Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, and Fruit Loops. I brought some home and my daughter ravaged through them all. I was lucky to get a few bowls in myself (with soy milk) She remembered them from her tot years and my son has also been caught sneaking a few handfuls when the boxes were left unattended on the table.

Were it not for my severe lactose-intolerance, I would have picked up quite a bit more. As it is, most things I've learned to live without or could not justify in my head paying such high premiums for things I could continue to live without. Absolutely much better than Tops, though.

One gripe: It continues to boggle my mind how Tops seemingly consistently carries 4 varieties of chocolate cake icing to the exclusion of any other flavor and how Villa does the same (as of my last visit). You can have any flavor you want as long as it is chocolate. Boggles the mind...
Enjoy this site much more by adding idiots to your ignore list (Friends & Foes tab).

Why don't you contact the people sitting at the front desk as you walk into Villa about the icing issue and tell them what you would like. They will attempt to order it for you.

Villa is now carrying a nice fresh made pumpernikle bread from the The Gas Pro in Bangkok. Nice flavor & texture.

Went to Villa this morning. Once again, Landmark was 10 minutes late opening the doors. *sigh*

Found a few interesting things in addition to my 'regular' items. Egg noodle fettuccine for 59 baht. Philadelphia cream cheese for 115 baht (marked 120 baht on the display). Lenders plain bagels were in stock at 89 baht, with about 6 or 7 packs left after I got mine. Bought a different brand of tomato to try at 89 baht for 4 small/medium ones. Danita's plain corn chips at 68 baht.

Was mischarged on the feta cheese...marked 168 baht at the display, charged 198 baht. Missed it on the checkout as I was trying to get the girl to pack the bags properly. Will have to watch more closely the next time.

Ah, no pumpernickel other than the small dense ones they have always carried.

I just can't understand this thread. So many members posting adverse reports about Villa Market but they continue to shop there on a regular basis. Now why is that?

Probably for the same reason members continue going to the Bangkok Bank or any other Thai Bank. The choices are limited!

Because they do carry a few items that many Yanks consider 'basic needs' that you cannot find anywhere else. Tell me another place I can find Grandma's molasses, or Lenders bagels, or a decent sharp cheddar for under 200 baht for 250 grams? Just wished they carried Mueller's extra wide egg noodles!!! ;)

Can't say that everyone has posted negative reports. I for one shop Villa Market a couple of times a month for those special products not available at the Thai Supermarkets. Haven't been in Tops but once since Villa opened it's doors and that was because Villa had not re-stocked what I needed.

Popped in to pick up a few items this morning. I followed a Ranger P/U up about 4 levels in the parking garage. He seemed to have no problems negotiating all the turns, didn't knock over any cones, and certainly didn't crash into any other vehicles. I really don't understand what all the fuss has been about this garage.

Strolled very slowly by the fresh produce section looking at the beautiful blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. Price DOWN on the blueberries from 200b to 155b now. Still pricey for 100g pack. I'll have to stay with the 1kg frozen pack from the other place at 280b.

Fritos "Scoops" relegated to the very top shelf. Not many Thais could even reach it, not that they would be trying. Splurged on a jar of Chi Chi's cheese dip (229b). No Cheeze-its to be found.

Johnsonville sausage stock in pitiful state. Only about 20 packs total, and NO Hot Italian.

My liquor spluge this time was a bottle of Makers Mark Kentucky Bourbon (90 proof) at 1475b.

Ben and Jerry's ice cream had one flavor on sale, which just happened to be my favorite (Cherries Garcia). Reduced to 299 from 399. I left 1 pint in the case for someone else.

Also bought a couple cans on Mountain Dew Code Red at 20b per. No Dr Pepper in sight. I remember reading that these were reduced in price recently also. Maybe discontinued now???
Every day I wake up is a good day.

Thx for the Cheez-Itz recce, Bubba; it's off to BKK again this week for re-supply; seems they can't make it past Khon Kaen up thru Udon and NK.

Life's never been ez in Isan, so ain't complainin. But do miss my Sunshine products.

... Nok Kaew replied in the meantime ... to which I say:

Ummm, is this a secret store? Oh right, I get it. Gotcha, roger that, copy, and cool.

Made a special trip to Villa today...waste of time. 3rd week in a row with no relatively inexpensive sharp cheddar cheese. (Only Tellamook or whatever, at 240+ baht) Also, if the alcohol tax increase is indeed not passed yet, they are playing a game too. St. Remy VSOP brandy has been 555 baht for a year...now 635 baht.

Villa finally had the California Finest Sharp Cheddar back in today...105 baht for 8 oz.

Also, for you American junk food junkies, Cheetos Cheese Puffs @ 125 baht a bag.

San Remo pasta @ 49 baht/500 gram packs...many varieties.

Dunno if it is old stock, or they just ate the tax increase, but Dewer's Scotch is still 699 a liter ACCORDING TO THE SIGN...which means nothing in Thailand. ;) However, the other bottles all had the new prices, including the 70cl bottle of Dewer's. I did notice that 15 yr old Glenlivet is now right at $100/bottle!!!! [-X
