Udon Thani Gold-shops

Are there preferred Udon Thani gold-shops and gold-smiths that anyone on here frequents and can recommend? When we do get to stay at our Isaan home, I get only to the local shops in Sawang Daen Din and they send out all of their repairs and custom-work. Any help would be appreciated. Looks like maybe February of 2010 will be the next visit, wife's health depending.....

Wel there are many as you so rightly have identified, however I did find one, a family run one, speak passable english as well on the fountain roundabout in Udon Thani, as you come from what I call the complex traffic lights, go around the roundabout asnd it is on the left about halfway round, you can turn up the lane next to it and park in a open space for 10baht. The son and daughter peak excellent english, mother not so good, they also have their own workshop for minor repairs, prices are acceptable but as I always say you get what you pay for, if buying gold price ins not a concern, quality is.
personally i always buy Prima Gold for the l;ady, but this shop is good and reasonable and honest.....unusual in this town for gold shops i find.

Is the a name to this shop? And does it have the Prima Gold you talk about? Just wondering for when it's the wifes birthday and our anniversery

this is the same shop my wife and i use when we are buying gold or diamonds.
i think the name is vorapat star jewelry and the daughter trained in u.s.a.
they are excellent and as you already mentioned,speak great english and very honest indeed.
the parking space you mentioned is where the old cinema was before it was closed down.
it is situated half way round the roundabout.
if you mention that you may return again,they will always knock a little off the shop price as well.
they give good foreign exchange rates, if you cannot get to the bank to change foreign money.
we cannot speak highly enough of this family run business.

Perhaps another alternative to give a choice would be Set Siri Gem on the second floor of the Complex. Physically it is the smallest of the shops on that level and its distinctive in that its decor is differant than most other outlets. I have had excellent and honest service for a number of years.
They offer excellent after sales for repairs and cleaning and will offer discounts that are honest and worthwhile.
The mangeress and owners speak good English and have a real eye for quality gems and gold. Well worth a look.
