Would this have been during the time a few years back when the BOT (?) put those ridiculous restrictions on monies coming into and leaving the country? I think it was ended around 2008 (?). Someone correct me.
This happened to me 3 months ago. Like I said I had the documents from the bank showing the transfer from Canada to Thailand Bank of Ayudyha and all receipts paid from that bank to pay for my house. I sold my house through a reputable real estate company in Hua Hin and had all tax's paid at the land office so there was no legitimate reason for them to not send my money back to Canada but they would not.

This happened to me, I had all the proper documents but my bank at the last minute refused to send it back for me. It was about 8 million baht and I was not pleased at all. I did find a way around the problem but at a lot of trouble and expense for me. Always better to rent, at least until you have lived in Thailand for 4 or 5 years and have a better idea about what is going on.
You have a bad bank - by the law they can not refuse you...its your money! Try yellow bank instead!
If you mean the Ayudyha bank that was my bank who refused. It may be the law but I am telling you the truth. They would not send the money back to Canada. I had all documents required but they would not. It may be the law but do you really think a Farang is going to win in a Thai court and how much would it cost to do that.
This seems to be a creepy story - i can guaranty that could not happen in the office at Homeproo...i was transfer money from there whit out any questions last week. The fee was 1600 bath and i transfer 250000 bath to sweden..

What reason did they gave you to not full fill there obligation of the bank law of Thailand?

Maybe you need to connect "somebody"?...i know them quite well ...you can PM if need.....
These days life seems pretty good and I eagerly look forward to the continuation!

One thing more: You dont even need to transfer money from the bank office - you only need access to there banking online service - then you can transfer what ever you like from your personal banking website...that can also solve problems whit bitchy Thais in a bank!

If this helps. I transferred a large sum of money from my Bangkok Bank account to my U.S. bank. The restrictions were that I could not transfer more than $10,000 per transaction and not more than $10,000 per day. So I made tranactions of S9500 per day over several days.

Thank You for your offer to help but I already have moved the money to Canada another way, albeit at more cost and trouble to me. The first reason was seeing my papers showing the transfer to Thailand which I showed them, the second reason was wanting to see my building contract for my house which I showed them. The third reason was I had leased my land from a different company then the company who had built my house. Sounds crazy but this all true. I know all banks in Thailand may not be like this but I personally will never bring any money to this country again other than spending money if I come back again.

One more thing, I had been with this bank, same branch for 9 years and they knew me well, full of smiles and friendly. TIT.

Many thanks for all the advice...seems clear, I shall rent!!!
I have a number of questions regarding this but think perhaps a new appropriately-named thread is wise.

Hi Gprit,

Rent is a better choice. Not to worry as I am not an agent....I am just a normal guy from a small country married to a lovely thai lady. BTW, I am not a Thai but my thai wife has a empty house now. Do PM me if you are interested.

Cheerios.

Can't be repeated too much. Rent for a year or two so you know the lay of the land, then buy, as long as that agrees with your long range plans. Anybody who rents for more than 3 or 4 years is making a big mistake.
