Red Star? Didn't he publish a quarterly magazine on Udon. He had two shop houses, bar downstairs, hotel rooms, restaurant. Just up from the City.

Yes. I think the name is Red Star, a recent conversion of 2 shophouses and no more than 2 years old. You may also want someone to acquire a phone number or web address to contact that frenchman or his Thai wife at the hotel.

I given a tour by the frenchman. There are prhaps 8 average to large rooms done up in a modern european style, granite tops for sinks, floor to ceiling windows, concrete floors coated with an clear varnish, high ceilings. An excercise room was in progess. Small bar downstairs. Kitchen was under construction then.

Prices quoted for rooms started at 1500 baht per night. I remember that parked out front was a new and unusual (red?) vehicle for transporting guests to and from the airport.

That has to be the most expensive rate in Udon. It is nearly 5 times the price of Top Mansion which is within spitting distance of it....
You would even get a few hundred baht change from the Grand...... :yikes:

nope, not too many '0000', as Ree inquired one night when we were out and about looking for a room at last minute, and was quoted 1200 :yikes: that was quite some time ago, pretty scary, now 1500, and with no pool or off street parking, though plenty around the corner from city lodge, though i like to see my car or know someone is at least sleeping/watching nearby.

too many options around town to be spending that kind of money for a nights lodging, especially w/no perks. as pointed out, 2-3-4 nights elsewhere. that's dinner, drinks and lodging for me, and change for breakfast in the morning. 8)

instead of staying around the irish clock, stay at the irish clock, i think still 850 and comes w/brekkie. hard to beat the comfort, location, and fine host/hostess. food is damn good also. close to nobi's, night life, night market, mall.

I asked him about it later and he just said there were to many people asking about it.the Irish clock
is A Hot Item.So im back to square 1.

Try the Karin Hotel, which is about a ten-minute walk from the Complex.

It is 400 baht a night, in a quieter location, and handy to most everything. The walk to the night market is about 25-30 minutes.

Unless it has improved considerably the food was never particularly awe inspiring at the Karin. When I stayed there (a few years ago now) the rooms were OK, nothing special but probably just about worth the money. Personally a stay at The Top Mansion is good for a cheap Charlie like me.....Complete laziness would be Nobis for breakfast, energetic would be The Clock... :D :D

It would have to be a late breakfast at Nobi's. He doesn't open till 9 now.Still the clock for me although a nice coffee at 11 goes down well at Nobi's. :D \:D/

is there a specific scheduled time that a gentleman would be expected to partake in breakfast ? cuz us common folk , tend to eat breakfast just after we get up , and some of us younger ones have a bit of brekkie before we get up !! :D :D :D
