What are you trying to do to me 747? That's my little piece of heaven. I love the place so much i even bought a plot of land down there for my retirement, well the wife did! I just paid for it !!! Now the place is going to be full of scallys Anyway now my illusion of a nice quiet retirement have been well and truly shattered , would anyone want to bye half a rye, 600 meters from the beach from me, er the wife? LOL747man wrote:LA, Instead of stopping off at Hua-Hin why not go the other 100 kms south and stop at Prachuab Kiri Khan,( Ao Manao beach ) is BEAUTIFUL & Clean as is the Sea there, about 6kms of whiteish sand & NOBODY on it,when WE were there,Anyway,Although NOT Much nightlife & you would have to go back into Prachuab to dine,Unless of course you ate at your accomodation... .

747 knows ....................... i'm selling up also now.
yes, have stayed there, at the military facilities/hotel, nice, well, ok rooms, big, frig, made for big numbers of guests i assume. very clean beach, but when we were there, had to walk out fairly far for waist high water. but nice area. at least swimmable water.
hua hin is again, familiarlity, couple restaurants, as once there, i don't like to drive much, R&R, but like exploring new places like now on north side. now from there down, i want to investigate, as never paid attention. pranburi, which marmite did a nice thing on teakdoor i think, and the rest of the place down that coast. only familiar with thung wua laen, chumphon, and one short stop long time ago at bang saphan.

Re: phuket or hua hin
Went to Phuket a month or two back. Its very scenic but some places are very expensive.
I dont think I would choose Patong again but Kata and Nai Haan,on the southern tip of the island, are fine with nice beaches and reasonable nightlife, particularily in Kata.

Indeed Phuket has many nice beaches and very good scenery, but be aware Souness said he was looking at going in July or August when sea conditions (and thus beach life) are likely to be much less than ideal.

Hi,
Looking at T.V. today, sad. There was the start of a big golf match at the Black Mountian Golf Club at Hua Hin. Looks very nice country side. This was the first day so it should be on for another three days if you want to look at it, on ESPN.channel.
Cheers Doug.

souness - how about considering Koh Samet...south of Pattaya but a world away in development. Koh Samet is a natioal park...with a lot of accomodation, just off shore towards Ranong side of the south east coast of the Gulf of Thailand. When I went there in the rainy season it was bless by sunshine due to the prevailing wind direction from the SW. It was pouring and thunder on the mainland as they moist SW winds hit the mountainous coast just a couple of kilometers away.
Another favorite is Koh Chang...further along the coast from Koh Samet towards the border with Cambodia. Koh Chang tends to be a bit wetter than Koh Samet as the island has some high hills on it that capture the moist SW winds.
Finally, if you enjoyed Koh Samui, why not try out nearby Koh Phanangan or Koh Tao. Former is a 30 minute ferry ride from Koh Samui while Koh Tao is about 90 minutes. Koh Tao is the scuba dive central in the rainy season in Thailand when the Andaman side sort of shuts down.
I agree with the other posters, Hua Hin is a definate pick if you like golf.
I've never been to all the Andaman Sea side resorts in the rainy season you are planning for (Phuket, Koh Lanta, Railay Beach, Krabi etc) but I've heard it does rain and they prevailing wind is from the South West then making for big waves. I believe there even is a surfing season at kata beach in Phuket in that season.
Good luck souness - GT
