Flying Air Asia to Australia

Post by wokkawombat » September 19, 2009, 10:04 am

I recently flew Udon, BKK, KUL (LCCT), OOl (Gold Coast Australia) with Air Asia.

Here is a brief summary of the trip.

Udon to BKK, on time and no problems. Collect luggage and check in again at BKK.

BKK to KUL, departed on time, arrived 15 minutes early. Hot dog was crap.

At KL, walk to immigration, automatic free 90 day visa; collect baggage, exit customs, no problems.

Free Wi Fi at Mac Donalds but no access to power points that I could see.

Check in at KLL was a s*it fight. They opened 4 counters but only 2 staff arrived on time. In the line for 40 minutes.

Exit combined immigration and customs, flight departed on time. Pay for entertainment if you want it. Aircraft was an Airbus A330?? (4 engines, seating 3 3 3, seats did not recline but glided forward, mine did not). Served a digestible Asian meal and water.

Arrived OOL on time.

All in all not the most pleasant flight I have had but a long way from the worst. With the special prices Air Asia have had recently I have been able to buy two return flights Udon-Australia for 2/3 of the price I normally pay for one flight Brisbane-Bangkok with QANTAS or BA.

I have a simple comment:- DON'T DO IT!
Personally I will pay more rather than EVER using them again.

Completely unexceptable OOL - KUL - BKK. The crap went on and on from check in at OOL to finally getting our bags at Swampy which took forever and that was after we had to get off the plane and bus it to the terminal, was like the old Don Muang days which I thought were past us.

As I said "NEVER AGAIN!"

Why not try Tiger John, I've used them four or five times now and they have always been very efficient, but obviously I fly to Perth which is only half the distance you travel ?? And their half the price \:D/

I don't know, I flew to Perth once with Tiger, yea a bit better than Air Asia not much. I guess it's really the hassle of having to do the immigration and customs thing at Singapore that turns me off. Was a good option when flying UTH - SIN - PER and return though but that didn't last too long.

Not sure Tiger fly to Brisbane Mark. So far so good with AA but the return journey may be different as BD experienced.

Done the same to Perth last time $500 return. Had the youg fella asleep on my lap most off the way so could not move ended up spending the next 2 1/2 days in bed with a stuffed back.

I have found the sets on Tiger even smaller any AirAsia.

I have used AirAsia many times from SIN to BKK. I am going to find it very hard to get the wife and kids on a longer flight with AirAsia again.

But $2500 return for 5 people hard to beat.

We flew Udon, BKK, KUL (LCCT), OOl (Gold Coast Australia) with Air Asia return.
3 people return we got $1690.00 aussie

Well the seat from kul to goldcoast was so hard.
very cheap but l think better to pay extra with other airlines that fly straight no stops.
Although the price is higher thaiairways $1060 each person.

the price is a big difference.......Kul people like to try take your money......taxi drivers be careful of them................get the train into kul town its only $2 or so and at the airport......... taxi is alot of money..they try charge you double your fare......
