Thanks Joe!SanukJoe wrote:No Stan, the taxi put the meter on and it was 200฿nkstan wrote:So,it was not a ''metered''priced ride,a flat fee ride, right?
I just asked before getting in what would it cost, obviously many of their rides are to and from the airport so it would need a very stupid taxi driver to not know how much it costs from the bus station to the airport. Remember they have a stand at the bus station...

Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani

Re: Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
the regular car-taxi's do have a stand at the bus station. and it may well be cheaper taking them than
the tuk-tuk's to many destinations as prices seem to be getting a little ridiculous. quoted 120 baht
for a trip to big-c from downtown. i think i could take the metered taxi and it would be less.

Cali you're right about the high prices of tuktuks, I don't know what they charge for a ride to/from the airport but I guess it would be 200฿ too, like the taxis. Not hard to take the best choice...
By the way, from downtown to BigC you could take a songthaw (small truck with 2 benches), they have very low fares, you just have to find out which number/line you have to take.

Re: Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
i have never seen or even heard of a funtioning meter in udon metered taxi.
i think 'metered' is the name of the company. you know, like yellow cabs etc etc
the taxi drivers i talk to through their windows have what appears to be a meter under the ash tray but its not on & any mention of turning it on is met with a short negative response.

So,are you saying that you use these taxis and they only quote prices to where you are going and don't use meters???DRILLER wrote:i have never seen or even heard of a funtioning meter in udon metered taxi.

i don't use them very much but my experience is . Metered in town, negotiated out of town. One driver explained to me, they are unlikely to get a return fare from outside . Seems fair enough to me .
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

The desk opposite you when you exit baggage reclaim (Limousine Service) have their prices displayed.
200 Baht to Nong Khai Friendship Bridge and 80 Baht to downtown Udon
Maybe the name gives a wrong impression as most of their work is done using Toyota Minibuses

Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
The distance Udon airport to downtown Udon would cost around 70 Baht with a Bangkok metered taxi. 200 Baht will get you from swampy to downtown Bangkok. Toll fees on top of that. Maybe the difference is because metered taxis in Udon can't be hailed in the street. Wonder if all fares are made up beforehand or if it's possible to bargain?

The 60 baht is for the mini bus service.
It has a 'route' that it follows which I think is pretty much into the centre of town (Central) plus a couple of the hotels, I think.
So if you want to go to a specific place (your home) they will almost certainly tell you that you have to take a taxi.
The other disadvantage of the bus is there is extremely little room for luggage so if it is busy you can end up with your case on your lap for the journey.
I pay 200 baht to get back to Nong Sim with a 'taxi' (they are private cars, moonlighting as taxis).
Once you get into departures head towards the mini bus booking office & ask them for a taxi to where ever you need to go. They will call the taxi 'organiser' over & he will arrange for you & tell you the fare - if you ask him..

I arrived with a mate from Pattaya earlier in the year and he was staying at The Paradise Hotel. I asked the private limousine service to take him there and then me onto my gaff and they agreed. When the driver arrived he said no. Went back to the desk and they said only to the Hotel. WTF? I was prepared to pay the extra to my place but they wouldn't agree. The fee was 200 baht and I had to get another Taxi from the Hotel desk. Brain dead.
Here's tae us, wha's like us, damn few, and they're a' deid. Mair's the pity!
