I arrived at 7:15am at Bus Station 2 on the west side of Udon Thani expecting a bus to leave for Nong Khai at 7:30. Unfortunately, there is no 7:30 am bus, only an 8am bus. The bus didn't depart until 8:15am and then went to a location near the northern bus terminal and waited until 9am. After several stops, the bus didn't arrive in Nong Khai at the Tesco drop off point until almost 10:20am. I didn't arrive at the Thai consulate until 11:45am. I got in but I was almost the last person to be processed for a visa.
I strongly recommend anyone wishing to take the morning bus from Bus Station 2 to arrive before 7am and take the 7am bus as the bus seems to take 2+ hours to make the trip.

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
Is there transport from Nong Khai town to Udon Thani Airport, I have to catch a 3:50 PM flight in January 2012. Thank you in advancearjay wrote:To clarify, the mini-buses from Udon airport will take you to Nong Khai bridge, or anywhere IN Nong Khai (town) for 200 baht. The mini-buses are available at the airport whenever there are flight arrivals. By far the best solution if arriving at the airport.
If one wants to get from Udon city centre, one should take a bus,(c 40 baht), either from Udon central bus station, or the northern perimeter/ring road bus station. They can/will drop you either outside Nong Khai Tesco, or on the by-pass, or at the Nong Khai bus station. The buses however don't go to the bridge, - the nearest and most sensible access point, would be to get off the bus outside Tesco and take a Tuk Tuk (c 40baht) to the bridge.

Yep, travel agent on Sadet Rd., left hand side going west, away from the road to Udon, toward and before the railroad station, big purple Thai Air sign out front. Mini-bus. My most recent trip it was 150 baht, straight to the terminal.
You might also check at the Mutmee Guest House. I believe they tack on an extra 50 baht, but if the bus picks up there, it's worth it (save a 40 baht samlor and hassle).

Believe this is their info (re post above). They go to meet most flights into Udon.
