Parrot, I wait. Though the guy behind me might leap frog me and then stop oncoming traffic so he can take advantage of the gap !!!
I wish Central Mall or the city would paint turning arrow signs on those lanes that lead to a T junction. If they legitimize two lanes to turn left by merging during the actual turn (make it a fair playing field for all), I will accept it, otherwise my horn will come in handy.
Luckily the city have tried to solve this issue at the T junction along UD Town feeding into Phosri Road, now have concrete islands to help keep control of it, though still plenty of Que jumpers there too attempting to squeeze in at the last minute to make the right turn, on what is only a 20 second green light. The folks in the legitimate line always end up waiting an extra red light cyle or two...

One can only image what that area will be like when the Lumpini Condos start to go up......not to mention when (if) they're inhabited!

Fact is with all the growth we have just going to get worse and worse. There are times I simply don't want to drive downtown, even with the small bike it's mayhem. Anyone else notice the tipple parking at the night market. How the guy who is legally parked gets out I have no idea.
It's even worse on big holidays when the nut buckets from Bangkok join in.
Thai's drive like they stand in line, you really have to be on your game to drive in the downtown area at times. Hey I'm retired I can pick my times and avoid it.

Jump the Queue - leaving Central Mall !!!
When I first went to Hua Hin 10 years ago it was a nice quiet little town, I quite often was the only Farang on the beach just out of town a little ways. Then it went crazy with growth and ruined it for me, I like slow and quiet. I remembered how quiet and laid back Udon and Nong Khai was so I told my gal we might move up here. Have been here for the last 2 months and I can see where things are going, already too much for me.

I'm surprised at the number of posters who say their wife just puts up with it. Not mine. At Kasikorn Bank in Ban Dung someone tried to interrupt our teller and the missus gave it to her with both barrels. The teller tried to explain who she was but missus couldn't care less.
Similar thing at the Air Aisa check in (at Swampy before they moved to DM) a woman just in front of us was about to be served and sung out to about 10 of her friends to come over. Missus walked around her and told the check in lady that it was a joke and if she wasn't going to send them to the back she could check us in first, which she did.
It's a great topic though. Nothing gets the blood boiling like a queue jumper.

Queues are a little like zebra crossings and box junctions, most people don't pay attention to them.
A couple of weeks ago I visited Udon Immigration for my 1 year 'O' visa, I arrived at around 2.30pm, took a card and waited for patiently for my number to be called. It was fairly quiet that day and my number was next in-line.
About 30 minutes later the people in front were finished, so stood up and walked over to the desk. As I did a Laos lady barged into the building and placed her paperwork down infront of the immigration officer, she didn't have a number with her. The officer didn't bat an eyelid and dealt with her first.
The officer was dealing with her for almost an hour by which time it was almost 4pm. The officer was about to leave, completely ignoring me sitting there waiting my turn. Luckily one of the other officers spotted that I had been waiting my turn and told her to deal with me first before she left.

Don't know if this is considered queue jumping or not. Our little bank at Big C doesn't use numbers, not that many customers. I use the machine updating thing a lot, and it seems to have a 50% fail rate. My wife then goes over to the clerk who is servicing another customer and hands her the bank book and tells her the machine is not working. The clerk then stops what she is doing and inserts the book into HER machine, which always seems to work. She then continues the transaction with the customer while the machine is clicking away, and when it finishes she hands my wife the book. So since the delay to the customer is only a few seconds, I do not consider it as an official queue jump.
Also, at our local government hospital they have a policy that if you are over 70 years of age, you do not have to wait in line. There are signs all over the place to that effect. Many times it is really busy, and the head nurse always stops what she is doing and leads me to one of the doctor's offices and waits there with me until the current patient leaves and escorts me in to see the sawbones, ahead of the other people who have been waiting some time. At first I felt a little foolish doing this. Puzzled by this the first few times I wondered if it was because I was a Farang. Then the wife told me it was standard practice and pointed to the sign. Since I don't read Thai, I was in the dark. I'm wondering if this is true of all government hospitals or just this one? I never had to wait at AEK Udon when we lived there, but that was because they were never that busy. I also use a private hospital in Yasothon and get the same treatment, although they don't have any signs. One of the few benefits of being an old coot.
Just a tip: If you're ever in New York City, don't attempt to jump the queue. Mayhem is liable to be the result.

As OP, I was waiting to see a comment from the FARANG driver of the (roughly 2006, older version) Mistubishi Pajero SUV. Or one of his friends to call him out, as there cannot be too many farang driving that era Pajero here.
He might revert that I was the rude one not yielding and my silly honking so feverishly to protect my right of way, though he honked back a lot too (we farang are a funny lot, aren't we). Sometimes I feel I am the only one with a horn in the car in Udon Thani.
If a newer Pajero Sport, then probably too many around to think of a suspect.....

To me if you dont want to Queue Jump then have the decency to ask permission from the person(s) you are cutting in front of. Its the decent thing to do to make everyone happy
If you cant do that as in driving just dont do it

I'm a Queue jumper.
If I want to do a U-turn and there's 10 or more cars waiting in front of me, I jump the queue.

Galee, I'm absolutely sure your queue jumping was only done as a last resort in order to make your tee-time, right?Galee wrote:I'm a Queue jumper.

I have to make up time for every traffic light that I meet changing to red just as I get to get to it.gudtymchuk wrote:Galee, I'm absolutely sure your queue jumping was only done as a last resort in order to make your tee-time, right?Galee wrote:I'm a Queue jumper.

At the dreaded SamPrao/Ring Road intersection......if behind a long row of vehicles at the light going toward Global/Homepro, I sometimes jump the queue in front of a slow moving truck. They take forever to get going......and I don't view my queue jumping as infringing on anyone else's place in the line.

U-Turn queue jumping?? HOw could that be?? Isn't it legal here in Thailand to have 2, 3, 4, 5, or even 6 (yes I saw this in Khon Kaen a couple of months ago) columns of cars turning at the same time??? Although the outside "queues" block your vision of oncoming traffic, when they go you can always use them as "blockers" and hope that if anyone rams them you'll turn fast enough to miss getting hit!

If you are the one waiting correctly, this is often your only choice! 2 or 3 others who just cannot wait will block your vision so you cannot see. I personally often feel like getting out and slapping them, but it is so prevalent here that they would probably wonder why you are upset. The sad part is that farang also do this as often as the Thais, and to make it worse, they are usually driving big SUV's or oversized pick-up trucks!FrazeeDK wrote: Although the outside "queues" block your vision of oncoming traffic, when they go you can always use them as "blockers" and hope that if anyone rams them you'll turn fast enough to miss getting hit!

But we should always keep in mind that the farangs doing this U-turn stuff are far superior drivers to the ignorant Thais who are setting such a bad example.

FrazeeDK's point, there are indeed many intersections and U turn situations where it is possible - albeit not entlrely legal - for two lanes to turn into two lanes, so it does not entirely create a bottleneck, though it does inconvenience the legitimate turning lane by blocking their view etc..
The OP on this thread is a case of Queue jumping and creating a second outside lane turn left into what is only a very narrow single lane that is often even hard to turn into legally under the best of circumstances, due to blind spots, motorcycles that can quickly come fill a gap, etc.
