thank you very much for the offer laphanphon, you are most kind but i challenged myself to do this trip the "backpackers" way *grin*

and thank you everyone else for your kind suggestions. i was actually planning to try to do the sangtaews (no.45? i thought it was no.44...no?) but was afraid i'd chicken out at the airport and wanted to have a more direct route just in case :-)

are there not normal taxis? how much would the limo taxis cost? and they are trust worthy yes?

thanks again everyone...your advice all much appreciated

no normal taxis, just get limo, 50 or 60 baht to town, both 44 and 45 come down tothe turn for the wat, but 45 will gring you all the wat to ban tad, then a little walk to temple. or you could get tuk tuk from mainr rad to temple 80 baht maybe.

when are you arriving? if you walk out to the road at airport, you can catch # 15, take you to rd to khon kaen, then catch # 45 to ban tad. there is another that comes in the other way occasionally, but not frequent enoght to take. o just walk out to the road at airport and get tuk tuk to ban tad, 150-200 baht.
