Bus from Pattaya to Udon
Bus from Pattaya to Udon
Does anyone know where to catch a bus from Pattaya to Udon and back including bus schedule, cost and trip time? Thanks.
Re: Bus from Pattaya to Udon
In Pattaya go down all long South Pattaya Road until you meet Sukhumvit Road. Turn left near Big C there is a petrol station. Just drive in there and at the left hand side there is the bus stop for any direct bus to Isaan.SanBorn wrote:Does anyone know where to catch a bus from Pattaya to Udon and back including bus schedule, cost and trip time? Day and night there any kind of busses are running to the North east, from no frill orange to VIP sleeper. Most busses leave between 19 and 22 h. Price is type of bus pending between 250 und 550 TBT per person.
Nearly anybody in Pattaya can inform you.
I would it more comfortable to go at first to Bangkok Mor Chit 2 terminal and change there into a direct but to Udon Thani. Busses from Mor Chit 2 leave around the clock more or less hourly.
Travelling time or costs from Pattaya directly or via Bangkok to Udon Thani is more or less the same.
Allow between 9 and 14 hours for the jorney - pending on type of bus.
Sonkran ahead ..
Please be aware of Sonkran ... It might be difficult the get a ticket .. !

SanBorn,
I agree with most of what has been said but the location and time required.
The location is on Sukhumvit Road(highway) but take that left turn off of Pattaya Klang(Central RD). It will be on the left about 150M down the highway and on the left side of the petrol station.
The travel time is 11 hours.
If you go to Morchit bus station and then on to Udon total time 13 hours.
I MUST SAY ALSO ...........GO EARLY AS SONGKRAN TENDS TO BE CRAZY FOR TRAVEL.
The only real choice is toilet or no toilet, stinks with toilet sometimes!
Happy trails

Personally, riding a bus anyplace in Thailand scares the he11 out of me. I would opt for a taxi to BKK and fly.
Many of the bus drivers are suicide jockeys. Many of the buses are not maintained as well as they should or could be.
Yup - flying might be the better option especially if the bus you are on is the one that doesn't quite make the trip.

Ain't Easy Being Me
The petrol station talked about is Petronas and as said is just round the corner from Pattaya Klang (the same road as Carrefour and foodland) go up to Sukhumvit at the top of the road - turn left and you will instantly see the petrol station. Inside there is a ticket office for 407 bus company and there is a timetable stuck on the window (albeit in Thai but you will be able to see the times)
Pattaya to Udon is 470 baht and takes 12 hours
I have never done it in 11 and never more than 12 and a half - including a 20 minutes stop in Korat
From what most of my friends are saying today - 10-13 April is completely booked.
Yes you can go to Morchit first and get a bus from there - there is much more choice. But after doing this last week - believe me its a nighmare if you don't have a thai with you. There is practically zero written (or spoken) in English and the touts will have you on any bus of their choosing if you let them.
Morchit to Udon with Chan tours is 421 baht

I've done this trip...........ONLY ONCE.........NEVER AGAIN......... The bus was a nightmare, as mentioned above if theres a toilet onboard it may stink, as was the case when I did the trip.... The stops are frequent but on occasion we weren't allowed to get off..... The seats were the most uncomfortable I have ever come across....sleeping was not an option due to the noise of the engine and constant jabbering of the people around me..... A BLOODY NIGHTMARE.......and theres no trolley dollies handing out sandwiches and drink...
Fly its worth the extra money and time saved

Hey Hey Hey, Stay away from the train from Pattaya to Bkk it takes 3,5-4 hours....
From North Pattaya bus station is a Yellow aircon bus running from Pattaya to Mukdahan and a rumor say it will be a yellow ride to UT soon, if it is not up and running...
Touring Thailand by using various bus companies is an experience worth waiting for.... And I really like to wait and wait and wait.....

If you are luck, there are 2 services daily. The trains "boogie'") are never on time. Tickets are around 50 TBT.
But you should use this service one to and back from Bangkok to Rayong. The inside views of Bangkok and Thailand are spectacular. I do it once a year just for fun and to observe all the changes happened.
Don't worry about food or drinks, there are sales person providing you with everything a rock bottom price. Otherwise the fellow passengers will feed you too since the trip is pretty familiar. Take your camera.
Yellow Inter City bus to Mukdahan might pass the new BKK aiport in order to board some more passengers.
