Clutch Replacement

Does anyone have any idea of the cost of a clutch replacement in a 3.0 Toyota Vigo Pre-Runner, I think a local repair shop is pulling my chain.....

Scanning some Thai blogs, the price seems to be between 10,000 to 18,000, mostly around 13-15k.

Besides variance in labor costs, there appears to be a wide variety/quality of replacement parts as well.......so cheaper may not be better.

The more I look, the wider the price range.
If you can drive the truck, you might want to check out a place like https://www.facebook.com/charoenyon.ud/ ... =1&theater and inquire about price ranges for replacement. They may be able to direct you to a reliable repair shop as well.

Thanks Parrot, can drive the truck and I intend to drop into the city to get some quotes (rain stopped play for a few days). Given your numbers I now realize the local guy here is pulling it hard at 35k, supplied and installed..

A Thai owner of a Vigo had his clutch serviced in Hat Yai. He broke down the expenses:
CHANGE PRICE SUMMARY VIGO PICKUP CLUTCH
Clutch press comb 3,200 baht
Clutch plate 2,300 baht
Clutch bearing with K1 1,200 baht
Flywheel bearing 220 baht
Wage 750 baht

That seems to be at the low end of range that I read.....given the wide range of quality parts.
In any case, a disclaimer......I'm an amateur at Thai.....so I could be way off the mark. In any (other) case, I'd be interested in knowing how things turn out. Thanks

Was in the city in the week so for the hell of it I dropped into Toyota for a clutch check and quote for a replacement... “No need new one” says the nice guy behind the counter, “engineer adjust, all OK”... 2,000bht, in and out in a little over an hour... clutch as good as new, well almost...

Adjustment should of been the very first option on a dodgy clutch , So well done to whichever Toyota dealer suggested it .

I was led down the garden by a local large repair shop telling me I needed a new clutch after an inspection, would’ve gone through with it if he’d quoted a decent price. Went back to the Toyota dealer where we bought the truck, Thahan Road, highway 2.

As far as I know, the only possible adjustment is for the position of the pedal.
Done in a minute.
But would do nothing for the problem.
And of course there is supposed to be some slack on the push rod, but that should not change by itself.
Would it be possible that the mechanic did repair or replace the slave cilinder, as the time that was used for the repair and the amount of money involved would justify that better then just the adjustment.
If that would be the case, and you are still on your first clutch, expect it not to last.

some " free - play" at pedal is necessary .(adj) as clutch disc wears, this might change. ( giving disc slippage symptoms) ( also premature throwout bearing wear) its possible to bleed hydraulic system( and also for slave cyl to go bad) and at end of day, probably will need new disc anyway

Had a Ford Pinto where range for clutch to be totally engaged to disengage was maybe 2 inches. Friend had same problem, turns out clutch cable was stretched. Sold car before I needed to fix.
