Udon Thani to Nam Som (Sam Liam)
Udon Thani to Nam Som (Sam Liam)
Hi everyone.
I'm new to this forum, so first of all hello everyone.
My wife lives in Sam Liam near Nam Som and we have driven between UD and her home many times with the car for a few days in UD and getting me from and to the airport.
I'm coming over again beginning of July and this time she does not know I'm visiting ... surprise surprise
She has asked me many times to simply surprise her, so here we go.
I need to get from UD to Sam Liam either by van, bus or cab after 0940 AM.
Can anyone enlighten me, because I have been sitting here in Darwin trying to sort this out for hours now and have not got any closer to having an idea how to get there.
Busses from UD literally stop in front of her shop, but the webpages I went to don't seem to get me there.
Normally I'm easy going with finding this info, but currently it doesn't fall into place for me.
Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim, welcome to "the map".
Can you give us a Google map reference as Nam Som and Sam Liam don't offer up anything unique or accurate. Your either near the Loei border or out past Bandung.

I know a few years back, they banned tuk tuk's from entering the airport. Not sure if that's changed but it's not a terribly long hike from the terminal to the main road... unless its hot like right now!

If it's not a matter of money I would use GRAB to get to Nam Som.
Re: Udon Thani to Nam Som (Sam Liam)
Plenty there now, but from my experience thay want exactly the same as an air conditioned cab

Good update there, thanks. Unless they're raping local wallets too, sometimes it's still a botheration being farang.

I am going to Singapore on Tuesday, leaving car at free parking area 200 metre past gate 5. Going to BKK Monday night to take sleeper by train to connect with 9:20 flight. Airport to udon train station 200 baht by taxi, same same by Skylab. Pay driver of cab 250 baht happily. Pay Skylab for slow journey, same money no thanks

Hi Ricks.
Closer to the time now. When I look at the location you sent, it just shows a pet store etc.
You stated 'near here'. Do you have a better location for the minibus stop by chance?
I really don't just want to have to hunt down a place I don't know where it is or looks like.
Failing that, I'll probably simply use Grab or Bolt.
Thanks mate.
Re: Udon Thani to Nam Som (Sam Liam)
Thanks Ricks.
The issue was that I was using Google Maps on my phone and you gave me coordinates out of Google Earth.
I solved the issue by simply using a taxi in the end.
Re: Udon Thani to Nam Som (Sam Liam)
That sounds like an awesome surprise! I've done the UD to Sam Liam trip a few times myself. If you're looking for convenience, I’d recommend grabbing a cab or using a ride-share app like Grab. It’ll get you there directly without any fuss. Vans and buses do run that route, but they can be a bit hit or miss with schedules and stops. Make sure to book your ride in advance if you can—it’ll save you a lot of hassle.
