You won't be able to make the train,it leaves Bangkok at 2030!Not sure about the buses, but there has been alot posted about transportation schedules to Udon!Try the search on the site!

unless you want to hire a taxi even the busses will have stopped by the time you would arrive at Morchit

I woud just bite the bullet and book a room and fly the next morning from Don Muang to Udon

The first train between Bangkok and Udon leaves at 08:30. That might be your best bet.

It appears that you are coming in on an international flight. I don't try to make same-day connections between international and domestic flights anymore. Too much stress from delayed departures and late arrivals. Best to take erikr_'s advice -take some stress out of your life and catch a few z's.

et us know if you would like a recommendation for a low cost hotel in Bangkok.

thanks for all the suggestions. i would have to take erikr's and rickfarangs advice.get some zzzzz's before my journey to udon. after udon,i'm heading to vietnam for 3 weeks. i guess have to take a flight from udon to bkk with airasia or pacific because nok air doesn't have flights to saigon. would you all think i should buy the tickets once i get to bkk? or book online before i leave the States?

My personal preference is to book as far in advance as is practical. I have noticed that on Nok Air, prices tend to increase as the departure date approaches, and I think this is common practice in the industry. That, and the good seats can disappear on some heavily booked flights, and I really don't like sitting in that middle seat!
