The official ruling is 3 months before, but if you go 1 day after you get an extra 364 days in the licence.

So for me always just after the expiry date but within 1 year.

FWIW I would never use Kumphawapi. They make up their own rules just because they can. AEK and the main office are good.

Exactly, it runs to the 5th birthday after renewal, so go before it expires 5 years go just after 6 years.
You will have got 5 years 10 months.

Right, and to extend the logic, if you wait until it's been expired 20 years and go in to renew it the day after your birthday, you'll get a whopping 26 years for the same low price of a 4-year license. Ahh, paradise.

Sure its fine, go ahead. If the police find you driving without a license it is a 500 baht fine. If you have an accident and are at fault while driving without a license, do you think your insurance company will stand behind you?

Personally I felt it worth the risk to wait until the day my last license expired.

Reminds me of an ex-girlfriend who never had a license until I suggested it. She had been driving her motorcycle around her village for years. Why didn't she have a license? "There are no police in my village."

I personally dont see the point in letting your license expire just to gain 364 days , to save 505bht it would take you 5 renewals , 30 years , whilst running the risk of being fined by the BIB , 500bht , i don't like giving them fck all ,

Nobody suggested that you ride or drive with an expired licence, if stopped you will be fined,

just that if you renew the day after your birthday you get virtually a six year licence.
If you renew before your birthday you get 5 years

Your licence runs to your birthday.

Your logic is wonderful.

Congratulations you will have to take the full test.

I don't run the risk. I get SWMBO to do the drive to AEK. She is willing to do that once every 6 years.
