Bank Accounts:

All done in 40 minutes, a USD and a Local Currency Account and the Bank APP downloaded onto my phone. With the App you can scan and pay at for just about everything you spend, i.e. purchases, restaurants and even a Tuk Tuk ride. :D :D

Only things I need to give the lady at the Bank was
1.Passport with Retirement Visa in it
2.Phone Number (Local)
3.An Address where I stay (didn't need to prove where I stayed)

Then they take a picture of your face, for future facial recognition. An added account security. Also had to sign a few form/papers, about half the number of that in a Thai Bank

All so easy \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

I recall the time some years ago when I applied for a retirement visa at Phnom Penh Airport. The officer that I spoke with was very helpful and with a good command of English.

I paid for the initial 30-day visa plus the extra for the annual visa and was told it would take a couple of days to process. He added that I could go back to the airport to collect or they were happy to bring my passport to where I was staying. I opted for the latter, and my passport was delivered to my hotel.

That’s what I call service. A multiple entry visa and no need to do anything at all until I would require an extension, a year later.

It took about 15 minutes to get a bank account, although I had to go back a week later to collect my debit card.
Similarly, it took 15 minutes to obtain a Post Office Box, whereas in Thailand it took 14 years to not obtain one!

Anyhow, I wonder how much might change in Thailand when Cambodia’s new airport at Kandal opens next year. This will be the ninth largest in the world and will compete favorably with Bangkok and Singapore for all long-haul flights.

Hospital

Todays visit was to the Royal Phnom Penh Hospital for an annual check up. They had several promotional Packages, so I bought the $164 and added a few extra tests.

Service was very professional, equal to Bangkok and all up took 100 minutes.

It finished with a 10 minute sit down with the Doctor where he went through each of the test results, for each organ, then explained the results of the EKG, Chest & Lungs X-ray, and Ultrasound of the Abdomen, explaining a few issues and detections. The Ultrasound of the Abdomen looked in detail at the Pancreas, Liver, Gallbladder, Kidneys and Prostrate. I was quite impressed with the Doctor's explanation, his answers to questions and also the written Report is very detailed .

Well worth the visit and the money.

The idea of registering at least seven days in advance is a bit of a shift, but if it smooths out entry, it might be worth the extra step. I’ll definitely check out the app and make sure everything is in place before heading to Cambodia.

On a related note, when I was prepping for a big trip earlier this year, I rented a car through https://realcar.miami/locations/miami-beach while I was getting my travel documents sorted. It made running errands so much easier and gave me one less thing to stress about before flying out.

Its pretty easy to navigate the e.Visa registration and It will cost $ 37 to 42 depending on the e.Visa type you want for a 30 days stay .

You only need to upload the following in the app, when registering
Upload a Photo
Copy of Passport
Copy of Flight Ticket In and Out

And input some personal details such as
Name, Birth Date
Email Address
Passport info
Overseas Residential Address
Address during the Visit (I just gave them an Apartment address in PP)
Intended Date of Entry
Port of Entry
Purpose (Visit Friends)

Once done and paid for you will receive a confirmation response email and then another email in 48 hours with your e.Visa attached to it. I do it on Day 6

From my home here in Phnom Penh, I wish everyone a very happy and successful new year.

The celebrations in this city attracted more than a million people, to witness the “Celebrating Cambodia” riverfront parade, the firecrackers and laser light show on Sisowath Quay, plus the glorious firework displays across the river. A truly captivating and memorable experience, to welcome the new year.

I would be interested to know whether anyone else on this forum, was in Phnom Penh for the new year, and to hear of their experiences.

Long live peace in Cambodia, sincerely, Fuzzyken

Hi Ken and I was one of the Million plus

Started at Metro Hassakan great place to eat, then semi retired (if they are the right words) to spend a lot of time leading to midnight on a balcony with company \:D/ \:D/ overlooking the city celebration, drinking an exceptional Red or two.

But then came down for a midnight celebration in Street 130.

All in all a very pleasant and enjoyable evening in PP

Recently did a short 6 days run to Phnom Penh to see my local Dentist in Street 110. Had

A double crown over two side by side teeth done, at $300 per crown, so total $600
Two fillings for $40 each, so $80 all up

Very affordable and professional

Opened ACLEDA Bank accounts in both USD and the local Cambodian Currency Riel and they downloaded the Bank APP onto my phone, in an out in one hour.

Only things I need to give the lady (very very pretty) were
1.Passport with 12 month Multiple Entry Visa
2.Local Phone Number
3.Copy of Condo Rental Agreement with my name on it

Picture taken, of face and with eye movement, for future recognition and use of the App I think, as added security.

Cheers \:D/ \:D/

Ken, what's the minimum deposit now in KH to open a Standard Chartered bank account?

Hi, and thanks for the question
I think it will be necessary to visit the bank branch on Sisowath Quay to find out what their conditions are for opening a KHR account in Phnom Penh.
ABA are very popular with foreigners and when I opened an account with them, I had to deposit $100.
Probably best for you to check the different banks and their conditions when next in the city.
Hope this is helpful.

Agree with Ken, ABA Bank is very Foreigner friendly bank and are very easy when it comes to opening a bank accounts, plus they have a well recognized "Scan and Pay system" that seems to be every where, in Smile & 7 eleven's outlets, , Lucky and Max-Value supermarkets, most shops & pharmacies, restaurants, bars, and even with Tuk Tuk's (Pass App).

I opened ABA Bank accounts 3 months ago in Cambodian Riel (400,000 Riel) and USD 500 (but I think you can start with less and opened ACLEDA banks accounts in both Riel and USD with the same one week ago. Only difference was that ACLEDA Bank wanted to see my name on the Condo lease, whereas ABA Bank just asked me for the Address if where I stayed.

I went to the ABA Central Branch
