I used them back in April/May, service was good along with the price (approx 1100 baht if I remember rightly), although not as cheap as Air Asia, but we couldn't get a seat with them.

The planes we flew in seemed to be repainted ex-Thai Airways jobbies, but they flew well...

I must admit they do remind me of Easy Jet in the UK, apart from the fact that Nok Air dresses in purple t-shirts and not orange :?

I like Thai Airways better. Their buisness class suits me better because I am tall. Never used Nok Air but have read many poor reports on them. Have you considered Air Asia? Read nice things about them and they are a low cost airline like Nok Air.

Used them in June, was cheapest I could find. Others say Air Asia, but when I tried both, back in June thru web sites, Nok was cheaper. Return filght had one hour delay boarding, no plane! But arrived half hour later than scheduled! Yes, I too think Thai Air is better, but I don't have baht to burn! 8)

My first choice would be Thai Airways but if you're looking to save a few baht then Nok Air would be the best choice. They are apparently owned by Thai Airways and are much more reliable than Air Asia.

just used them last week, they were fine, on time, no problems. thai is better, but the price was right for only an hour flight.

I agree with Jeab, we prefer Thai, pay a little more for a better service, and we put more miles on our Royal Orchid plus cards.
Nok is better than Asia, in our opinion.

Several times I have tried to book with Nok, using my Uk issued Platinum Visa card and have been refused acceptance. I am assured by my bankers there is no problem with my card, in fact last time I rebooked on Air Asia using same card, no problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a general policy. According to the card issuer, Visa, they are breaking the merchant agreement.

For those close to the airport, the Nok Air counter is the easiest way to buy their tickets.

I hate Air Asia but I'm just irritated because I can never get anything close to their bait-and-switch prices advertised.

Not flying to Udon anymore, One-Two-Go/Orient Thai Airlines. Took their flight from Bangkok to Phuket a few months ago. They did provide a drink and peanuts unlike Nok Air. Book two days prior to departure and can pay at 7-11. The negative is the plane is an old McDonald Douglas something. Worst leg room ever. And, MD? Didn't they go out of business like 20 years ago?

Always used a UK issued visa card with Nok Air and never had a problem - booked online in minutes.

1-2-go is rumoured to be starting Bkk-Udon again

Will the new airport ever open ?

Had a look a few weeks ago and is pretty darn bare inside.
In fact even on the outside the 'fake bricks' are falling off the decorative wall. Think they got bored LOL

Have always flown Thai Air business class until 2 weeks ago when I found out that I was given 3 different prices. They raised the price for business class to 6,300 baht.
Nok uses the same plane that Thia uses for the afternoon flight. So, I checked Noks prices for business class and found the price to be 3,700 baht. Forget the 500 miles f/f program that Thai gives you to Bangkok.
I'll save the 2,600 baht to fly from Udon to Bangkok round trip and use the extras for extras in Bangkok

Same seat, same leg room but better prices

Nok Air Flight aborts takeoff incident

Post by arjay » February 6, 2006, 9:11 am

I spotted this on another Forum, which I thought might be of interest to Udonmap members:-

Nok Air fails to lift off, skids off runway

BANGKOK: -- A Thai budget airline jetliner skidded off a runway Sunday afternoon as it was making an emergency landing at Bangkok International Airport following engine trouble, according to company executives.

Somchainuk Engtrakul, acting president national carrier Thai Airways International, Nok Air's parent company, said some 109 passengers were aboard Nok Air flight DD7506.

The Boeing 737-400 was departing Bangkok to the southern resort island of Phuket Sunday afternoon but was forced to abort its takeoff shortly after the left engine developed trouble and stopped functioning before it lifted off.

The problem forced the plane to skid off the runway, according to Mr. Somchainuk.

THAI emergency centre director Surapol Isarangkura na Ayutthaya said that all passengers were safe and that no one was injured. They were transferred to another aircraft.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the engine malfunction, he said.

Considering the number of flights per day they have - its quite rare to hear of any incidents with Nok air - Unlike Phuklet air for example !

This appears to be a mechanical malfunction and nobodys fault really and full marks to the captain for saving everyone on board as an engine failure just before lift off would have certainly made him earn his wages that day :)

In the "office" I mentioned this to somebody who used to fly the 737 (Airbus now) and his comment was that it would be virtually impossible to avoid it swinging off the runway in those circumstances. Not enough rudder or nosewheel authority to overcome 22,000+ lbs of thrust on one side only apparently. They train for it all the time but still, his comment, a very senior Captain..... "B****y excellent job, I hope it never happens to me"

Not a reason to not fly Nok then IMHO

Another website - quoting the press yesterday is stating that the aircraft actually got airborne and lost its engine a few minutes after that, The pilot returned to Bkk airport and did an emergency landing on one engine and apparently black smoke was 'billowing' from the failed engine. 5 passengers were hurt in the evacuation process as they decided to jump off the wing in panic instead of using the chute and damaged their ankles.

Two very different version of the same event. Guess we will have to see which one is correct.

Yes, I noticed an inconsistency in the article I quoted (verbatim), in that in one paragraph they spoke of aborting take-off and in another paragraph they spoke of making an emergency landing.

Hi guys,
Hope to get up there to check out the lay of the land for possible retirement. I am currently scheuled to arrive BKK at approx. 2:00 AM on March 23 and would like to know what is the earliest can get a flight up there rather that having to waste time and money by getting a hotel in BKK just for a day or so. Also, do they fly daily and what is the earliest return flight to BKK, my return out back to swampland leaves BKK at around noontime April 3 and need to get there around 09:00 hrs to allow plenty of time to check in, other wise will have to come back to BKK a day or so earlier to be on the safe side as I have a non-changeable ticket with it costing a fortune. Thanks guys and have a good one and enjoy. Looking forward to getting up there and hope to meet up with some of you while there. Old Bud
