Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
I'll be coming in from BKK to the Udon airport. First time there so curious if there are metered taxis or what for transportation into Udon Thani. What should be the reasonable approximate expectation for taxi fare from the airport to Top Mansion hotel?
Thanks

I would estimate about 200-250B in a tuk tuk.
Alternatively, look for the Charoensri (Centara) hotel van. If they're not full, they'll take you for 150B or 200B. If you ask nicely, they might take you down TM road.

Re: Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
As far as I am aware taxis waiting for hire (& tuk tuks) are NOT allowed at the airport. There is a service that is, basically. a mininbus that does a circuit of Udon dropping off at hotels. Tickets are available just before you exit the airport - I understand that the ticket price is pretty minimal.
As Tex says many of the larger hotels have a mini bus service & it is possible to avail yourself of those for a few baht to the driver. Charoensri Grand is probably the nearest to Top Mansion that does.
Top Mansion do not have their own mini bus service. However I am sure if you contacted them then they would arrange a pick up for you - Tex is pretty correct about the likely charge!!

Is it possible to call a metered taxi service, and meet them outside airport perimeter ?
Or get a tuk tuk somehow ?
I am not going to downtown or hotels.

Re: Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
In the last three or four years I've flown into Udon Thani airport twice and at the enterance there was a someone with a car that offered taxi service to take me to my hotel. I don't think it was metered or marked as a taxi. But it was taxi service. If this is not normally available, I would like to be informed.

Thanks TJ.
So some enterprising souls are outside hustling cab customers. Very good to know

Wayne I am sure that if you phoned the Udon meter taxi service from BKK airport & told them which flight you were on & where you wanted to go that they would meet you.
The 'no taxi/tuk tuk' rule is to prevent touts hassling unsuspecting visitors & not to prevent passengers making onward travel arrangements. The metered cab service is by appointment only & they cannot be 'hailed in the street', so I think it is highly unlikely that the authorities would worry the driver of one of the cabs parked in the car park waiting for his fare.

Its no problem for the taxidrivers to park at the airport parking. I only call them and they stay waiting for me at the arrival......by the way.........this is the sheapest way to go alone and you dont get rip up by some tuk tuk or limoservice!

Re: Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
My mate was here recently and chose to stay at the Centara.
He was asked 400 baht for a ride to the airport on the Hotel's minibus. So we're not talking big money here, but still a rip-off in my book - not in comparison perhaps to UK costs, but I know you can travel in a taxi across Bangkok for less than 300 baht, including the tip! And the minibus goes to meet the incoming flight anyway.

maybe some member can write down the tel nr, when they see taxi passing ( they must have a tel nr on the car somewhere, no?) and post it here , i would do it like that , unfortunately i am not udon resident.....
Re: Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
These are ''metered cabs'',right? So it would also be nice to know what the metered rate is and if they actually use it,and any other related experiences involving the use of these taxis.
Awhile back there was a thread about the cost and experience, and alot of posts were made with no experience shared!

Last year I took a metered taxi from the bus station as I came to Udon by bus. Fare to the airport 200฿ (check before).nkstan wrote:These are ''metered cabs'',right? So it would also be nice to know what the metered rate is and if they actually use it,and any other related experiences involving the use of these taxis.
I had to go to Immigration. When ready I called them and a metered taxi came to the airport, fare to the bus station again 200฿.

So,it was not a ''metered''priced ride,a flat fee ride, right?SanukJoe wrote:nkstan wrote:These are ''metered cabs'',right? So it would also be nice to know what the metered rate is and if they actually use it,and any other related experiences involving the use of these taxis.

The place just to the right of arrivals, where you can book a minibus, also has private cars you can use.
We've done this several times on arrival at Udon.....price to City Centre was 200 baht also to the original Tesco Lotus area was the same price.
Last time we used this service was May this year,so might have gone up a few baht since then.

No Stan, the taxi put the meter on and it was 200฿nkstan wrote:So,it was not a ''metered''priced ride,a flat fee ride, right?
I just asked before getting in what would it cost, obviously many of their rides are to and from the airport so it would need a very stupid taxi driver to not know how much it costs from the bus station to the airport. Remember they have a stand at the bus station...

Re: Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
Right after a flight arrives, there are always (according to my observation) men standing inside the building near the door. You can recognize them by their dark colored clothes -not quite a uniform, but they have the distinct look of drivers. They have flat rates and before leaving, pay a fee to somebody behind the airport limousine counter. There are not people who happen to walk past the airport and think they will pick up a quick couple hundred baht. They are part of an organized monopoly.
You can pretty much count on being able to use their service.
You could walk out the road and catch a tuk-tuk, but it is a very, very long walk. Carrying luggage on a hot day makes is seem even longer.

Yes, I agree. It is very silly to walk down a thai road in thai sun or rain to get a tuk tuk, pulling a 20 kg suitcase after you. I was just amazed if this was my only option. I have never been to an airport with no taxis, and I have travelled quite a bit.
Later, it seems not so.
You can call outside cabs:

Or go with the uniformed guys at the counter. I assume this is then the limo service.wayne747 wrote:Thanks Bob

Re: Taxi fare from Udon airport to Udon Thani
Don't quote me on this but, I saw something somewhere where the taxie's in Udon were charging (seemed about the same as Bangkok) 30 baht and then 30 baht per Kilometer, if you called them for pickup there was a charge for that, which I can't remember. The New Tesco has a sign with #'s and last time there, had a taxie waiting.
But anyways, a ruff estimate of costs, now all we need is the distance into Udon. Just make sure he takes a left on leaving the airport.
