Bus to Nong Khai
Bus to Nong Khai
I understand there is a bus station in Udon Thani. Anyone know what the cost is for going to Nong Khai?
Thanks

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
The last time I went the bus was about 40 baht...alternatively you can go by train which is 11 baht...both take about an hour. I would suggest the train is easier because the station is nearer to where you will be staying. The bus goes from the bus station over the other side of udon which is quite a way from the central areas...happy travelling ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
I believe the A/C bus from the downtown station to the NK bus station is 50 baht!
Re: Bus to Nong Khai
Buses do also go from the central station to NK. Not as frequently as the downtown station & most are fan rather than A/C.
Re: Bus to Nong Khai
Ok so looks like either by bus or train it is pretty economical to get there.. Thanks people for the responses.

That is true rtpman.
Which to use really depends on what you want to do in NK when you get there.
The train station is not too far from the friendship bridge - but too far for most to attempt walking it.
The bus station is far nearer the centre of NK but so a bit of a distance from the bridge - although tuk tuks waiting to rip you off will abound at both!!![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Haha Bob, I like your comment on this one... however, the sure way not to get ripped off is get out of the bus at Tesco's NK and take a tuktuk for..... 30 baht! Done many times, always the same pricingBobHelm wrote:The bus station is far nearer the centre of NK but so a bit of a distance from the bridge - although tuk tuks waiting to rip you off will abound at both!!

Jim, if (as you mentioned in pm) you want to explore Vientiane do like me: take the 40 baht bus from Central Udon busstation, get out at NK Tesco, take a tuktuk to the bridge 30 baht

I will be in Udon the coming week, will send you pm, we might be able to have a couple of beers together.
Cheers

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
Is there a bus that corresponds to the late evening flight into Udon?
Or a shuttle service from the airport?

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
I'm not sure about evening buses to NK bumper - but I would think that there probably are.
The shuttle bus used to run to NK as I can still remember 747man having a few problems with it as they would not take him to his place just outside NK.
Maybe he can just us an update on the current best way??

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
Bob, The Shuttle ( Minibus ) runs from UTH Airport connecting with every arriving flight, goes to NK but wont take you ( IF you are Farang ) any further than their NK Office,Best get out at Tescos NK,And get a tuk tuk, either that or pay 800 baht in taxi meter from Airport to wherever you happen to live in NK or the outskirts......I Dont use the shuttle anymore because of the probs I had last time, I get a friend to pick me up now at the airport......BobHelm wrote:I'm not sure about evening buses to NK bumper - but I would think that there probably are.

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
I have been in this bus a more then a few times, and yes sometimes it is stopped by the police, but when it happened they didn't even bother to check me or other farangs in the bus. So I don't think they are looking for "illegal" farangs (what ever that may be).hangsaboot wrote:<>

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
Thanks Guys I pass the info on and swing by the airport this week and see what the current status is. Shuttle would be perfect if it will get you to the bridge, not many tuk tuk's hanging around immigration in Nong Khai
Re: Bus to Nong Khai
Get OFF the Shuttle at Tescos in NK,And get a Fuk-Tuk to the bridge from there,as I TOLD you before......

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
To clarify, the mini-buses from Udon airport will take you to Nong Khai bridge, or anywhere IN Nong Khai (town) for 200 baht. The mini-buses are available at the airport whenever there are flight arrivals. By far the best solution if arriving at the airport.
If one wants to get from Udon city centre, one should take a bus,(c 40 baht), either from Udon central bus station, or the northern perimeter/ring road bus station. They can/will drop you either outside Nong Khai Tesco, or on the by-pass, or at the Nong Khai bus station. The buses however don't go to the bridge, - the nearest and most sensible access point, would be to get off the bus outside Tesco and take a Tuk Tuk (c 40baht) to the bridge.

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
Can anyone confirm the 9am bus departure to Nong Khai from the central bus terminal? The last time I went (about 4 months ago), the earliest bus to Nong Khai was at 11am.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Bus to Nong Khai
try the bus station near the junction of route 2 and the ring road map ref l1, bus was parked by the road side. as i recall bus leaves on the hour and 30 mins past. i have left udon on the 10 am and most likely there will be earlier ones.
