Speed trap - October 14, 2006
Nekochan reports: I got a mail from a friend warning about a new highway traffic monitoring system. So, Thai highway patrol does not need to hide behind trees anymore.
The letter says: ( brief translation)
Dear Owner of 1301
On August 10, 2006 at 12:54 our laser monitoring system detected speed violation on highway # 2 at section 420-421 km, Noon Som Bun, Khon Khan. The speed was at 124 kph beyond the 90 kph limit.
Please report to Highway Patrol Police 2 (Khon Khan Precinct) within 15 days. The 400 baht fee can be paid via postal service.
Regards,
.....(name)
Attached with a picture of the car!!

i don't think it was spoof, but simply a few spelling mistaykes, as in the spelling of "khon khan" and putting the 13 round the wrong way. i could have corrected them but thats how it was reported, and it is a thai website, and was reported by a thai.

Already there my friend, with a central control room linked with several other large stores so they can warn in advance if suspicious looking charactures go from one to another.

speeding is breaking the law, if i get fined 400baht so be it, the camaras are not a deterant to me, now a 5000baht fine or an evening in the "Ban Ling" is a differant matter! (is there a point/banning system ?)
guess i will use my radar/camara detector when driving in Los.

Actually I have only been nailed for tea money once, in Bangkok and I did infact run a red light, 500 Baht. Hey I ran the ran light so I owed a fine who got the fine really didn't matter much to me. But this looks like a good cost control for us

Of course this could like the mysterious radar Systems between here and Nong Khia, said that they had one but per a friend who had a detector, as soon as they were shown the detector they just let him go, So it probably never was there.

Wouldn't be something if someone just took pictures of vehicle and sent out the letters, pretty safe bet everyone is dong more then 90. Now that could be some serious tea money and a cottage industry worth having

TT (Tis Thailand)

They had the same system in Kuwait on the major roads. But they were at fixed locations and clearly visible.

yes thats an old scam thats been done in the UK, must of been 8 years ago, my Dad recieved an official looking letter from what looked like a real speed enforcement body, stating that his vehicle that he had been driving was spotted speeding in a certain area, now as it was a company sign written vehicle, all that had been done was the name and address details of the company that was on the sign written vehicle taken,
and they had simply written a spoof letter saying to pay a ฃ60 fine immediatley (photo evidence was available but did'nt come with the letter !!) and no points would be put on your licence, but we spotted the scam straight off, (as he don't go over 30mph . lol) but i bet plenty did,nt and just payed the fine.
