Trip to Phayao

Am planning a short trip to Phayao, any advice on what transport available from Udon, much appreciated, has anyone done trip by car lately, what conditions are the roads. Thanks.

roads are good all the way, most direct route from udon is via loei/dan sai/nakhon thai/then up thru uttaradit/phrae to route 1 to phayao. after loei, the roads are 203/2013/1143/11/101/103/1. have driven that on return from golden triangle, should have no problems. that was couple years ago.
