Air Asia to check Passports / Interpol database

Wasn't sure to post this as a new topic or as a side topic to the Thai Visa Crackdown

Clearly the " ASIAN " passport link with MAS has bought attention to stolen passports

This may mean that dubious travellers, will be monitored at a higher level, as I cant see Air Asia being the only ones to commence this.

Im sure that Interpol will soon roll out the database to airlines

good thing, IMO

Air Asia to check Passports / Interpol database

I don't think it's a bad idea (checking passports not sending 747 by train or bus). Post 911, governments and airlines must ensure that air travel is terrorist proof. Don't airlines also get fined by governments if they bring an Illegal with a dodgy passport into a country? Such a move has got to benefit everyone.

Yes, if you arrive at a country and the visa is not correct etc, then the airline is responsible and also can be fined

I got refused a boarding pass years ago in Brisbane by TG counter staff ( Fat Aussie Chick ) as I didn't have a return ticket with me and I was entering Thailand as a tourist for about 2 weeks, before flying out to Saudi for my work, but the E ticket hadn't been booked as yet. Was in the middle of applying for Non Imm O

I had my Yellow book with me and TG staff refused to accept that. TG Flight Supervisor ( K Thai ) intervened and accepted this as proof etc. She said at the time, that TG can be held responsible for non admission into a country.

flying to Cuba last week, all docs all checked ( inc Int medical insurance ) before boarding pass issued and a stamp on the boarding pass, saying all docs checked.

Recent tests have shown the processing time for the Interpol database check per passenger to be 0.2 seconds.

Putting that into the context of a full 150 seat aircraft, an airline using only one check in desk for those 150 passengers would only add 30 seconds to the total processing time for all of them.

It's required in my view, it makes for safer travel and stops illicit asylum seeking.

taking off ur shoes . takes longer

Stopping the Pax at checkin is the way to go. As any terrorist already has their plan for getting through the basic airport security checks.

people with new fake passports are not on Interpol's data base, only people that they already know of..so its not 100% proof.

While what you say is technically correct, doesn't the DB hold a list of all valid passports? That would be the best way to check for fakes, obviously.

Any stolen or lost passport that is reported or replaced would go on the list and MAS would have picked that upand PAX denied a check in or immigration clearance and handed over to.local immigration authorities.

Yeah I don't mind, it's not too bad I can live with this but I'm sure some of us in Thailand can't.
