Departure Tax at Airports Who is Right ?????

Post by bamboopaul » May 8, 2007, 7:01 pm

Just read these quotes one from the Foreign Office web site (British)
The other from AOT Suvarnabhumi Airport site.

Who is right ???? anyone know???
AIRPORT TAX
With effect from 1 February 2007, airport tax of 700 Baht per person will be incorporated into the cost of tickets. Airport tax for domestic flights is also included in tickets. The exception is Koh Samui where there is a domestic departure tax of 400 Baht per person.

Departing Passengers
Passengers must have their passports checked by an Immigration Officer. Boarding passes and completed immigration cards (No.6)[T.M.6]) must also be presented as well.

Please note that foreign passengers whose passports have been stamped upon arrival are considered to have entered the Kingdom of Thailand. When leaving the country they are required to pay the passenger service charge. Children under two years old are exempt from the passenger service charge.

Passenger Service Charge (PSC)

International Passengers: 700 Baht/person

Domestic Passengers: 100 Baht/person (included in the ticket price)

The charges are now collected in your ticket price, so you don't need to pay them at the airport, as per the British Foreign Office website. :D

Maybe the second item you quote is just making the point in relation to passengers passing through the airport, en route to somewhere else. If they want to actually "enter Thailand" on their stoppover, then they will have to pay the deparure tax upon departure. Though the second quote doesn't contradict the first one.

Yes, It's true, the airporttax is now included in the ticket price.
So you don't have to pay the 700 Bath cash before you leave.

My personal experiences leaving Thailand in recent months.

When I left in December 2006 I had to pay 500 THB at Suvarnabhumi for the Departure Tax at one of the booths before passport control.

When I left a few days ago I had to pay nothing extra - none of the old Departure Tax booths were manned.

It would not surprise me if others had different experiences :?

Jimbo, that's because, since 1st February 2007:-
The charges are now collected/included in your ticket price, so you don't need to pay them at the airport.

Yes I know, but I bought my ticket in December, so I don't think I paid the Departure Tax :?

Airport tax

Post by wazza » May 9, 2007, 4:56 pm

yes, what is happening is that some early tickets wont have the tax included. My company's travel agency, hasnt being paying them, so i had to pay in April, but the ticket was issued in Feb from UK.

According to the TG counter girls, it will sort itself out soon as the tickets get all upgraded, its the open returns that still / might need to pay etc....

It happened to me that at the Thai check-in I was informed that my ticket (bought in april) had the departure fee not included. They had this information in their computer, but I wasn't informed before. So I had to pay at Check-In (and got a receipt). Weired...
