Tiger tale

Post by nevket240 » May 29, 2007, 3:44 pm

Have just completed Melbourne-Perth-Singapore-Udon return trip with both Jetstar and Tiger. No complaints. In fact lady friend who came back with me for a rev around the East coast returned Monday night and found Tiger staff at Perth International to be credit to Airline. She speaks little English and was very worried about switching terminals. Both Jetstar and Tiger staff extremely helpful. Tiger even escorted her through process to boarding gate. Not bad, eh?? =D> =D> =D>
Hopefully TA will commence Melbourne-Singapore-Udon this year. Looking forward to it. :D :D :D (hello Irish Clock, do you miss me???)

Tiger Air to Consider Buying Airbus, Boeing Aircraft (Update1)

By Anand Krishnamoorthy and Susan Li

June 4 (Bloomberg) -- Tiger Airways Pte, the budget unit of Singapore Airlines Ltd., will consider ordering more planes from Airbus SAS or Boeing Co. as it expands into India and Australia.

Tiger will issue a request for proposals for single-aisle aircraft from the world's two biggest planemakers in a few months, said Tony Davis, the airline's chief executive officer, in an interview in Singapore today. He declined to say how many planes the carrier may buy.

Tiger joins AirAsia Bhd., Southeast Asia's largest discount carrier, and other airlines in the region that want to buy more planes because of increasing demand for travel. Growth in Asia- Pacific passenger traffic is estimated to outpace the global average, according to the International Air Transport Association, which represents more than 250 airlines.

``For the expansion that we are planning, we need more planes,'' Davis said.

Malaysian Airline System Bhd., the country's largest carrier, yesterday said it plans to ask for proposals for twin-aisle planes from Airbus and Boeing before December. Rival AirAsia has 150 narrowbody planes on order.

Carriers in India, Thailand and other Asian countries are also ordering planes.

Tiger, which has a fleet of nine Airbus A320 aircraft, has assured deliveries for 11 more of the same family of planes by the end of the decade. Still, the airline is open to a bid from Boeing, Davis said.

``As a consumer, it's good to keep an option open for both types of manufacturers considering how competitive it's these days and because of the delivery schedules.''

The airline has an offer for a sale and lease-back for seven of the planes it will take delivery of, Davis said. The carrier has ``no firm plan'' now for an initial public offering, he said.

I care. I'm a caring type of person!!

I visited Tigers web space last night to plan the next trip in Feb08. To my surprise and possible dismay they have removed the Perth-Singapore-Udon flight from their Winter schedule. I have sent an Email off to them asking for clarification.

To me this is silly as the Xmas beak for we Southerners is our main travel time.

However the flights I took last month were not full. Well patronised but maybe not enough to be profitable
By the way the are planning on Perth-Singapore-BKK instead. Maybe something to do with loss of revenue at the "Debacle"

Hi Nevket,

Thanks for the news on Mel-Perth-Sing-Udon. I'm looking to use this route myself next time. I normally go Mel-Bkk-Udon with Thaiair and have the normal 6 hour wait at BKK to connect to Udon. I'm also looking forward to see if TA go Melb-Sing-Udon. Was looking at Mel-Darwin-Sing-Udon, but it's not too cheap to get to Darwin (return) with Jetstar. God grief I miss Udon and TG is always asking when I'm coming back! What I'd give for somtam and cold beer at Kalasin, MK duck and to be warm! (winter here in Aus and cold in Melb).

Cheers
Phil

Sorry Jackspratt didn't see it.

Philrjons. The Darwin link doesn't work due to the tight (thait) schedule. You arrive in Sing about 3/4 of an hour before the flight to Udon leaves.

I see another post on this so off to read it. hooroo 8)
