Having just returned from Brisbane and currently in Perth for a few weeks I must say what a pleasure it is to drive, anywhere. I never thought I

I stopped at a pedestrian crossing, never again.

Was in the town centre, an old Thai guy was on the crossing, stuck in the middle of 4 lanes of traffic. I approach on the outside lane and stop to let him cross, everybody behind me ploughs down the inside and leaves me stuck in my lane with the old boy stranded, standing infront of me. It seemed like an eternity waiting for a gap big enough for him to shuffle across to the pavement. Felt like getting out of my car and stopping the traffic to let him cross, but knew I was heading for a visit to AEK if I did.

I never thought I’d ever utter such words about Australian road users but after an 18 month full time stint in Isaan I guess I was getting blinded by the Thai road sense or lack of it. Even as a pedestrian here and seeing vehicles stop for me at crossings is taken some getting used to.

The worrying thing I noticed is I had picked up a lot of bad habits and now really having to concentrate to do the right thing.

As such:- If you see some “Stupid Farang”, in Udon, stopping at a pedestrian crossing, not forcing a right turn into on coming traffic or not parking, in Tescos, at an angle taking up 2 bays it will probably be me! =D>
Any trouble adapting to the .05 :D

And I hope you remember to turn on your hazard lights when going through a 4 way intersection

if i know there are only cars behind me and they can't pass, i will give pedestians the courtesy, asl long as not in a hurry or can make a green. especially if no inconvenience to me, and there are a few cars behind me, i will stop and let them cross, where ever, especially if kids in tow. but if motorbikes are around or behind me, i don't even bother, they simply pass and it makes it even more dangerouse for the pedestrians, as they get a short false sense of safety.

They don't normally see me as I forget to switch on my lights at night and, anyway, I only normally do it when I'm looking for a place to double park while pointing in the wrong direction.

It is just as well my daughter does not have a Honda Wave down here couldn't imagine the amount of havock I could create with that.
