Concern over hospital treatment
Concern over hospital treatment
I am writng this post regarding needing urgent treatment for my bladder cancer to which I had a severe truama and loss of blood (1) I am B-Neg and woulw find it near impossible to get blood , I was admitted to paulo private hospital and was assured the proper treatment, the hospital was very good nice room , seen the doctor quickly, ????????? but they did not have a urology specialist and after 1 day was in severe pain and trauma but was given a bill for 20,000 baht as advance, OK I was then told no urology doctor was available as 2 of the doctors were in america and another was at a meeting , my first day was 9,550 baht, the second day I was still bleeding and still no doctor, as I have many thai friends in the medical dept they quickly took me from paulo to udonthani hospital who took me to emergency and brought a special doctor who took no time in asserting my dangerous situation and had me under control in 4 hours , if not for him I might have died after 3 days of treatment ant antibiotics ang great nursing I was home after 4 days . In paulo I had to pay 32,000 baht for 2 days and no specialist
I am thankful to my thai friends in nong wua saw and all the nurses who made it possible for me.
my bill in paulo for 2 days 31000baht , my bill for 4 days in udonthani with excellent tretment 10,000 baht
name and tele supplied TOM

This is unprofessional service from this hospital, For them to admit u knowing u needed an immediate assessment from a consultant that wasnt available.
They should have referred you to another consultant no matter what especially after your symptoms developed.
The hospital will have what is called a Patients Bill or Charter of Rights
I would suggest you contact their CEO and write a written complaint , and quote from their own charter etc....
In this case, for the hospital to admitt you, implies they will also provide the services that are needed.
Im presuming the other consultant who was at a meeting, wasnt in Udon, but somewhere else in Thailand ??

Excellent points wazza, hopefully there will be some recourse, but i wouldn't hold my breath!
Thanks for your post Tom!
I have been considering using that hospital for future needs because of the satifaction described by others, but your experience is an eye opener, that gives me pause versus the others experiences that were seemingly only based on ''conversations and a pleaseat attitude.
One positive experience,by my neighbor, was this hospitals willingness to coordinate with the doctors in Bangkok that were treating her at Bumringrad hospital! Not something that happens very often in Thailand from my understanding and experience!
I am happy that you finally received fair and good treatment!

Is UDON THANI hospital the one by Nong Prajak?
Do they have private/semi-private rooms or are patients kept in wards?

Nola
I presume looking at the prices they charged, it was the public hospital, located next to Nong Pra Jak Park

Re: Concern over hospital treatment
So am I as Tom is a close friend.. anda good man...
we had our baby recently in there, great great doctor, birth all went well etc... trouble is the nursing staff unfortunatey!! they took my wife and me to the nursury for training (having had 3 already and the ex wife being a midwife) they proceeded to teach us an absolutely stupid and pointless way to bathhim, which when we got home i showed her the proper way!!!
After 1 week we go for weekly check for baby.... my god i was horrified at their standards!!!!! we took the baby in a room the nurse took him undressed him and measured him, then wieghed him then put him in a device that measured his lenghth... Nothing wrong so far??? i was fuming....
the nurse took him off Pick, no hands washed no rubber gloves... remember this nurse was handling babies all morning... she put him on a bed no blue tissue just straight where the last baby was put... when she moved him to the weighing scale she put his head on her shoulder!!!! and put him intothe weighing scales again no new blue tissue or anything, again into the measurer... her shouldere was probably a universe of different germs from different babies!!!
Any way im trying to keep quiet for pick's sake and talk to the doctor about it.... so in the waiting room i watch many children/babies going with this same nurse etc etc
eventually we get to see the doc, who wears rubber gloves to examine him, but her nurse who undressed him again hadnt washed her hands or worn rubber gloves... to her credit and my disbelief pick the ever so well mannered thai ripped into the doc... then i did in ever such a nice way so she didnt lose face of course!!!! She just thought it was funny!!!

Wassa,
This point was brought up yesterday with the person responsible for the register.
I was asked by her to post the following info,
Untill the register is up and running, persons wishing to Register, should do so by e-mail to miew1999@yahoo.co.th.
This is the Senior Nurse charged with the responsibility of formulating the register.
The push to get this register did not get off the ground at that time (Thai Timing) the official web site for registration will, I'm informed be up and running very soon, the site will be WWW://farangblood.com
in the meantime any one who wishes to register, can do so at the above e-mail address, the details will then be entered on the official site.

About Panyavej-inter and Aek Udon. I think their prices are too high and specialists are too often not available.

Re: Concern over hospital treatment
Simple suggestion to anyone wishing to use the services of any private hospital.
Ask if they have available a consultant that is able to provide a clinical consultation within a reasonable time frame for your presenting condition.
U wont get Cardio Thoracics, Neuro, no matter what in Udon anywhere, Khon Kaen the closest

Re: Concern over hospital treatment
You might need to transfer to some better medical hospital to assure that you could get a good service. You should try to look on some private hospital to let you see how better they could serve their patients. In the case of money, private hospital is much expensive, but you should better no considering the amount you could spend, service is the most important.
