Osteoarthritis

Post by Charlieb » August 2, 2017, 12:15 pm

Sometimes called degenerative joint disease or “wear and tear” arthritis, osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common chronic condition of the joints. It occurs when the cartilage or cushion between joints breaks down leading to pain, stiffness and swelling. pain.
As a result it occurs mostly in us older folks and hurts like hell. Mine is in my ankle.

I just wanted to ask, since I can assume others suffer from this as well, what Are you doing to treat the symptoms or to keep it from ocurring?

Maybe someone somewhere has found something that works to treat it when it occurs or something that will keep it from occurring.

I have been told to drink tea of Ginger. Avoids certain food, etc. and of course from the wife, Ya Mong, cures it all :D

Bioglan red krill oil active joints with glucosamine helps, many brands around. I also use a thermoskin wrap.

Give an example of some brands or perhaps a picture. If I ask the Thais Bioglan red krill oil active joints with glucosamine I am sure I will get blank stares :-)

I use Ace bandage from the states. Helps some.

I have traumatic arthritis in my right ankle from a bad parachute landing 52 years ago. My walking is limited by the pain, but I have found a few things that help.
When I know that I'll need to do more walking than will be comfortable I use an ankle brace that limits the range of motion enough to keep it out of the most painful range.
I've tried a number of topical ointments. For me, the most helpful is a Thai preparation called Longanoid, Longan Seed Extract Cream. Prima Herb, 053-222-778. My wife buys it somewhere here in Udon.
Of course, anti inflammatory and pain relieving drugs help, when necessary.
Losing weight and keeping it down is also beneficial. It's a regular challenge for me, as I love to eat, and I don't get as much exercise as I might if the ankle didn't hurt so much.
There is no cure for arthritis that I'm aware of.
Good luck, Be well.

UExpat, had similar problems about 5 years ago with an ankle. Found a local doctor in Udon who seems to prefer using cortizone needles before a referral to a major hospital for surgery. He used 2 needle's into the ankle. I used a walking stick into his surgery and when I left 30 mins later, never have needed it since and he is reasonably priced. PM me if you his contact details.

I still see this doctor for shoulder and back injuries I received many years ago, "Yes please Dr, another needle", problem solved.

That had to be paiful. I have one cortizone shot and it was one of the painful things I have had to endure. It was in the shoulder

Bottom floor of Central, near the foodcourt, P&J Pharmacy. As you enter, walk straight to the back of the small store. Top shelf, greenbox glucosamine, 450 Baht for a months supply. It's regularly 900 baht. My wife takes one pack (mixed in water) every day for the past year. Although she's not getting younger, she's not complaining about her joints as she did in the past.
The pharmacist as P&J speaks good English.

P&J or P&F? I try to use P&F as much as possible. A good little pharmacy and helpful staff. Located where you noted on the bottom floor of Central.
