Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening

I recently got an sms from the NHS reminding me of an appointment for an AAA screening. My father nearly died when he had one many years ago when he was around the same age as I am now so it's now been flagged as something that should get checked. Since I am back here, I will get it added to my annual physical due next month, either locally or in Bangkok. It's typically a one-time assessment but this may require follow up depending on results, your overall risk and family history.

If you are +65 and importantly if there's a family history of AAA, best get it checked. Using ultrasound scanning is the most common way of assessment so a non-intrusive outpatient job and probably won't cost too much for the un-/self-insured.

Thanks for the post. I just had my covid-overdue physical at Bangkok Hospital....ultrasound included as part of the package. I had no idea what 'normal size of abdominal aorta is found' meant until I read your post. One less thing to worry about!
