In rhe UK, foreigners should pay for NHS treatment (unless an emergency), however NHS is not setup to do charging and ascertaining who should and who should not pay requires a lot of bureaucracy - hence not often done. Possibly actually cheaper to accept everyone.

Whistler, last decade. Yingluk was elected, but didn't last long. I think if you do not count Prayut, i think no elected government has ever served a full term.

Yep, two decades ago it appears, however my comment was quite tongue in cheek

My recent extended stay this year cost me just south of 2 million Baht. God only knows how much that would have been in the private sector.

Just rechecked my figures and the actual hospital charges were south of 1.5 million Baht. This included 5 large debridement ops and 2 amputations along with 10 weeks of accommodation/medical/nursing etc. Sorry for this misinformation.

Personally, i think it's terrible that all the ***** come to the UK to use our wonderful NHS.

Jeez, the hypocrisy.
I believe the biggest complaint is that they use the NHS for free whereas if we farangs use the Thai health system, WE PAY!

Hi Alfie.
Thanks for your kind words.
I actually did a follow up post where I corrected the hospital charges down to under 1.5 million Baht. I agree about preventative care as much as possible without having to live in a Monastery etc. There was nothing I could do about what happened to me. Was playing golf and foot got caught in some tangled undergrowth and went down on my knee giving a few broken skin scratches. Long story short, ended up with Type 1 Necrotising Fasciitis, basically a flesh eating bug.
Seven operations later ended up with left leg amputated mid-thigh and a long process to recover and prepare for a prosthetic leg. Everything else "under the hood" is fine. Take care.
Cheers
Alex

Hospital charging ,
Ive just had surgery at local hospital , price for shared private room , i was quoted 400 bht , ok .
but when the bill came it had 800 bht , oops after a discussion ( it's double charge for foreigner )
they settled on 600 bht , the eye op i had turned out (total costs including room , ) half price of wing , for the same ,
onto foreigner service UG , last november ,i was there , for the most part the service was ok , ( when it says foreigner , it also means , cambodia , Laos etc ) but it all started to go wrong due to the doc not turning up on two occassions ,having to return again , (120 kilometer round trip ,) specialist in lungs , so no one else to see , when i got the you need to to get a ct scan , (just to be sure ) very late in the day , the service for foreigner tried to scam me for 500 bht , to get the scan as they were very busy ,this is were i walked out , i got the scan at my local hospital , so back to the UG foreigner serice , 7 hours later i walked out again , same sh-t ,
i talked to the surgeon who was to perform the knee op , he already knew of the sh-t i'd been through, thereby i now bypassed the sh-t show , got the knee surgery , great results ,
Now onto Q S heart center Khon Kaen , my bill back in 2016 6 months prescription , 20,000 bht , ish , over the years still the same meds and two extra now , my last bill came to 4900 bht , ( go figure , ) pink card used everywhere now ,
i saw a news report on the prices that can now be legally charged at GOV hospital , it was tiered , thais , cambodians/ laos / malay last at the expensive end was the western foreigner , ( i wish i'd saved it , )
hope this throws more confusion onto pricing ,

Hoopoe, I never thought to try to use my pink ID card. Do you think they will give me the Thai price if I use my ID card?

At First I thought this.
But having been treated at quite a few hospitals
I now think each hospital has its own charging system.
It's better if you do use IT..
You have nothing to lose
ONLY The possibility to gain

Nothing about charging as that obviously changes with each patients needs, but just thought I would mention for anyone going to QS Khon Kaen. unless you like sitting in a massive room with at least a couple of hundred other sick souls, ask for Premium Lounge service. It is a seperate self contained part of the waiting area with as the name implies nice armchair and sofa sitting, nurses in attendence do all the usual formalities, blood pressure etc, blood testing and most other services. it has it's own senior doctor who I have found to be excellent, even tea/coffee and snacks free to help yourself to. your prescriptions are dispensed and brought to you, then it has its own cashier.Soinds very expensive but it isnt. Can't give you a price as every time I go I need different things but I assure you it is very worth it compared to sitting with the masses outside.

Udon Gen. Hosp. IT Problem

Post by rick » January 16, 2024, 1:51 pm

Many of you may have heard that the hospital has a computer problem. It has. Seems to be a ransomware hack on the medical.records, possibly other sustems. I can confirm that the hospital.has no.access to your medical.history, this is having a knock on effect to consultations. Be prepared for longer waits.
