Passing of Forumite "Muscle" AKA David Shogren

Post by FrazeeDK » August 4, 2007, 8:50 am

All,

I'm sad to inform you that David Shogren, screen name on the forum "Muscle" passed away Thursday August 2nd at 2PM in Audie Murphy Veterans Administration Hospital in San Antonio TX of a terminal illness. Dave departed Vientiane about a month ago, returning to the U.S. for better medical care. When he arrived at Audie Murphy they discovered he had terminal cancer.
Dave's wife Fon was enroute to the States to be with him when he passed. She's now in San Antonio with Dave's brother taking care of funeral arrangements..

Dave was an outspoken but kindly man on the forum, a superb nurse, caring husband, and great human being.. I hope I'll see him again on the other side....

Dave

A sad loss of a colourful and interesting character; I only once had a really long discussion with him, one afternoon just after he had been receiving some treatment at Paolo.

Ended up spending probably the most interesting afternoon I have had in Udon debating the merits and demerits and corruption in the US & UK political systems, big Pharma, big Oil and a whole host of other subjects.

I met him at the Members Meeting last December. He seemed like he was a fairly young man, mid 40's maybe? We had a nice conversation that night. Scanning over his posts he seems to have been very devoted to his Lao wife. Very sad. RIP David.

Mod Note:-

Newsgirl I have linked your post with a previous topic about David Shogren. You may like to note the OP (Original Post) above, in which FrazeeDK stated at the time of the Funeral Dave's widow Fon was in San Antonio (USA).

FrazeeDK may have more up to date information on her current whereabouts, You may like to PM him, or he may pick up on this latest post. In any event I trust those involved will respect any possible privacy concerns of Fon.

I knew Dave when he worked at the US embassy in Vientiane. When he went back to the VA Hospital in San Antonio they called back to Vientiane and told the embassy to get his wife back ASAP as he had about a week to live. She missed him by about 1/2 a day.. He had a very close friend in San Antonio who helped his wife take care of things and settle Dave's estate. The last I talked with him via e-mail in 2008, he told me Dave's wife had moved to DC and had petitioned for resident status. He told me she was working at the Fort Myers PX and had found a "friend" to take care of her. Unfortunately, I don't have the name of Dave's friend...
