Motorbike ride to festival in Loei 4 6 July

Post by travellerjon » June 12, 2008, 3:22 pm

Phi Ta Khon Festival

Date : 4-6 July 2008
Venue : Dan Sai District, Loei

http://www.tourismthailand.org/festival ... 976-1.html

You may like to check out the above link. Several guys have expressed an
interst in this and it does in fact look like fun.
It is likely that riders will leave from Udon and a separate party from Khon Kaen.

But it's not that far away so now would be a good time
to start thinking about places to stay etc. At least
three guys have indicated that they want to go. So how
about a little feed back here if you have an interest.
Maybe we can put soemthing together. The thought at
the moment is to stay one night.
So please let me know if interested, new riders welcome.

I went to Dan Sai from Loei and return a couple of weeks ago. It was terrifing to see Thai truck drivers on the wrong side of double yellow lines and driving into blind curves. A few hours earlier I had been in the same lane as them but going in the opposite direction. After seeing that I will always hug the left hand side lane.

I'm a newbie to Thailand and also Udon where I'm now living. I just joined the website and am not familiar with the terminology. When you use the term motorbike, do you use the term loosely and if so, how loosely?
Back in the States I worked most recently as a Harley mechanic but to me they are just good bikes same as many others eg Honda, Yamaha etc.
So, what's a motorbike and where's a good place to find one?

Thanks!

same same, just a lot smaller, 100-200 cc. in states someone might mistake them for moped, without pedals

the 200 phantom actually looks like a 750 cruiser, with basically no 'git up n go'. but comfy to sit on, looks nice, better for long distance.
