UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

The season ticket seems good value if you're planning to go to games regularly/fairly regularly, buying a Club shirt and just supporting your local team.
A couple of queries on the deal might be if the 'home games' includes cup matches OR only the league games (nitpicking?) and if one has the choice of the home OR away shirt (what I believe is the design for away seems more attractive to me, blue not orange).
Win a prize back to England? I might have to pass on that if I won - after all I was actually born in London, English is my native language and, although more atheist than religious, I suppose I'd say Christian, if asked for official purposes. What chance have I got of being let back in? However, I should add that anyone sitting near me would remind me I've been heard to cry "Thank you, God/Buddah" when Palace/Udon have been hanging on to a one goal lead and the opposition is battering the goal. :-k

I will buy a seasonticket tomorrow IF they have the orange shirt in my size. The homeshirt is always no 1 for me, but if the awayshirt looks good I will buy that too. In this case the blue looks good from the stands, but I have to see it close-up. Also it needs to have the sponsor logo. They didn`t have big sizes with sponsor logo on any of the shirts last season.

Don`t know if the seasonticket includes cupgames, but if it don`t, seasonticket holders should be able to buy tickets for cupgames before others when/if there are games like the one vs Buriram last season.

For your sake I hope Udon win tomorrow, because Palace will get trashed tonight...

IF I understand correctly the design of the home shirt, it didn't appear particularly smart to me, but we all have different tastes. From a photo previously posted, I THINK the Club has a deal with a particular manufacturer (Liew) this season, which probably explains why there wasn't a competition, as last year, to offer up designs.

A reply on facebook seemed to indicate that the season ticket would not (as I'd expect) include cup games, but I'm hardly going to lose any sleep about prices to watch Udon play and a couple of hours 'entertainment', on and off the pitch. I also thought one might have to wait a while to obtain a shirt, whilst the Club determined demand. But I could be wrong, as not many posts are in English and using web translation is often hilarious.

The ko time for tonight's Palace v United game isn't great. I'll see if I choose to nap earlier in the evening and get up again, or try and last out post midnight. I've followed Palace far too long to make any predictions on what to expect from them. One thing I hope for is that the weather is reasonable, because Palace have played (and others too) in some awful stuff recently. Rest assured Svein, that should Palace do well [-o< (or even of they don't) I'll dig out one of my Palace shirts, make a point of finding you and sitting on your head! Oh, If the Mr Green smiley is meant I might be envious of United, nothing could be further from the truth. [-X

I think more people would turn if they sold hot pies.

I'm guessing you missed out 'up' Prenders, although my stomach could revolve at some of the usual type food on offer.
Bit warm for pies, don't you think? Watching can be like a sauna, on occasions.
Plenty of beer on offer, which often accompanies hot pies back home, although officially you're not meant to take it into the ground.
Quite a lot of hot crumpet, though. :-" =P~

Yes, not easy to use these translations all the time. They know how many shirts they sold last season, and the orange was sold out long time before the leagueseason ended, so it should be easy to guess approx how many they can sell this year. I`m sure it won`t be less than last year. I think I saw one guy in Kalasin last week wearing the new orange shirt.

Results yesterday:
Ubon UMT FC 2-0 Kalasin FC
Mukdahan City 1-6 Sisaket United
Surin City 1-0 Mahasarakham United
Chaiyaphum United 0-0 Nakhon Phanom FC

No surprises yesterday. Last season`s bottom team, Mukdahan, looks set for getting that place again this season. Played 2 games, both at home, and lost both, goaldifference 2-11.

We should find out about shirts and have a few other questions answered later today, Svein.

Did anybody catch SMM TV live yesterday? It took me a while to figure out I was actually watching the Surin v Mahasarakham game. Various banners on the railings showing Surin's elephant badge, but also a large Buriram banner. And on the Surin players' green shirts, a very distinctive Buriram badge and name. Surin, or Buriram Reserves if you prefer, had a massive black guy. Of course, Udon will meet them in the League.

I appreciate that some lower division Clubs are feeder teams for Premier Thai Clubs. I guess there are rules stipulating that players have to be registered for ONLY one Club but ......TIT.

Thanks for the update Svein.

I wasn't possible to come maybe the next game on March 16.
How was the game against Loei?
Many people at the first game?
Someone can tell more about the season card?

A good start and let's hope we will have fun as last year in the cup and promotion games.

The result yesterday was better then the match itself. Was not able to buy season tickets for my son and me, but something was mentioned about these tickets available on or after March 6. Will they return my 50 Baht when I buy a Season ticket?

Phen:
Yesterday the season tickets were not available yet, comment: "not ready, will come soon".
They used the play-off tickets from last season as entrance ticket, but the price was THB 50 as usual, not the THB as printed on those tickets.
There was a nice crowd, stands at both sides of the pitch packed. Good atmosphere too.
Udon played not bad at all, in particular if you keep in mind the short pre-season preparation time due to internal problems.
Foreign players: 8 (Santos, Brazil) and 30 (name yet unknown to me, from Iran), both contributed well.
Local players: I liked number 19 (name yet unknown to me, from Udon Thani), fast and strong

I bought a seasonticket at the game yesterday. Paid 999 baht and got a membercard (dated 2013 :? ). I had to order the shirt included in the ticketprice. I ordered a XXXL orange shirt, but the blue is also available for those who want that instead, and sizes are up to 5XL so they should fit most farangs. :D
The seasonticket includes only leaguegames.

There was sadly no new merchandise for sale yesterday. I don`t understand why they don`t want to make money on that. Maybe no money to buy in the first place, or they don`t have anyone to take care of the work?

It was almost a "full house" yesterday, like the final games of last season, so that was good to see. It might be more than full later if the team can stay at or near the top of the table. No sign of the new stands they said in October they were going to add behind the two goals, but that`s no surprise.

Next homegame is this Sunday, phen. It`s against Ratchaburi (from Thai Premier League) in the league cup.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Ditto Svein with regard to the season ticket and shirt. (The pretty faces there could have persuaded me to buy anything). I changed my mind about the colour wanted, as the orange looks a lot better close up than on facebook. Assuming they match up size-wise to last year, I ordered only XL. Just goes to show “who ate all the pies” then Svein!
;)

Cactus There are maps you can download from this website, or pick up a hard copy about town. If it helps, the main entrance is actually on the ring road, about 50 metres on the left (if one is coming from ‘old’ Tescos in the direction of Nongbualamphu) past the traffic lights crossroads with Phracha Raksa Rd(the Napalai Hotel Rd) - the last turn off before the airport road, if you prefer. Many fans do arrive at the rear entrance to the Institute too, cutting through, I guess, from Phosi Rd, like Udon Prison way.

“No sign of the new stands”. I did comment at the time that I thought this was dependent on winning promotion. Enough said!

I didn’t travel away to Kalasin, so this was my first view of the team. I could only recognise three faces from the starting XI or subs, so a massive shake up from last season. Incidentally, asked in the office for the names of the squad in English, so we non-Thais might attempt to put names to players. Maybe next week?

I enjoyed the game, which I thought was hard-fought throughout. In my opinion (other views welcomed) Udon looked fairly comfortable in maintaining their lead. As Svein said to me at the time, it was noticeable there were hardly any chances/goalmouth action outside of the goals themselves. Also, neither team had a ‘big’ guy at centre back or central striker (usually a foreigner), which appears the norm for most teams.
I was really looking for a ‘wow’ factor from Udon – alas, not in this game. Last season, I think most would agree, the foreign imports were the main strength of the team. A couple of class players there, to my mind. To them, I would add the goalkeeper and centre back. But all have gone.
Only my view here. A team of, shall we say, ‘lesser’ players can on occasions, by playing as a team rather than individuals and through determination, win through against supposed classier opposition. But I have concerns that could happen throughout a long season. Nothing would please me more than having a team of local players surprising everyone. But I do fear that with the League so dominated by better foreign players (and Clubs able and willing to pay the higher wages) that Udon may struggle, particularly in central attack and defence.

Hope I’m proved wrong and in any event, it won’t stop me cheering ‘em.
