UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

BRAIN! Not you too
It's amazing how many Thai reverse the a and I and quite funny in an office when the name is called. Not so long ago I found myself helping with a lift to a real BRAIN surname.

There's quite a lot of chat on Giant Gangster, but with the hilarious translation on Bing and Google, can't make too much sense of it. Have a look. It appears fans have been down the station protesting and in support of the players - food and drink etc. I'll have a bit more time later and perhaps the best idea might be to ask one of the fans to summarise what's happened in ENGLISH, I see somebody posted a 'finger up' to Nakhon Phanom, so wondering if that Club played a role. :-k

I`ve been told that NP was so pissed after the game that they informed the immigration, and that very few RL-players have a work permit. I just hope that they won`t get any points deduction as punishment. If so, we might see a foreigner free league soon.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » March 12, 2014, 6:57 pm

I did ask a friend to try and explain the situation and she kindly sent below:-

"Two foreign players had been catched by police while they in the trianing yesterday because staff of Nakhonphanom FC use their power to contact and order the police to do that. They angry UDFC and udon fans from the match that day.but its unfair and so bad. Two players dont have work permit, its during the process but they have ITC (international transfer certificate) that almost foreign players in Thailand use this to play football..Nakhonphanom Fc want to libel us so they find the way to do bad for us....now Our 2 players have been allowed to go back home, last night they stay in the jail, many fans went to visit for encourage them. For the penalze,we don't know now, wait for judgement from The football association of Thailand."

As I said before, I think NP should be directing their anger at the referee who failed to control the game and NOT the Udon players, management or fans. IF the Football Association is to consider anything other than the eligibility of Udon's foreign players, then I hope Udon represent themselves properly. The Association should watch a video to get the complete picture, particularly the bad refereeing, the ranting of the several NP staff during the stoppage and, as NP seemed particularly upset by the punch allegedly thrown by the Udon Iranian player, the kick a NP player landed on him seconds before, with the ball nowhere near.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

A very poor and boring game between UDFC and Amnat today, but it all got better when Udon scored the winner after about 75 minutes. We also got some action late on when an Amnat player got sent off and then attacked the ref, which led to a brawl including most players and staff from both teams.

In the 1st half 8 players "needed" treatment on the pitch, 6 from Amnat. Until Udon scored in the 2nd half there had been 8 players "needing" treatment, 7 from Amnat. After the goal there was 2 from Udon, none from Amnat.
I`m sure there was at least 25 freekicks in each half, some of them wrong of course, + lots of throw-ins and corners, so there wasn`t a lot of football being played. But as long as Udon win, we can live with a bad game now and then.

Udon fell to 3rd place since Surin won 5-0 yesterday, going above Udon on goals, both on 10 points. Ubon beat Nakhon Phanom 10-1 (yes 10) today and have won all 4 games so far, scoring 21 goals.

I was looking forward to use my new XXXL UDFC-shirt today, because they had told me I would get it today, but sadly I won`t get it until next homegame, at least, they said... :(

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » March 17, 2014, 7:07 am

Nice summary, Svein.
I had watched Sunderland v Palace the night before , which was poor entertainment, but some excuse was a powerful, gusty wind. Udon’s game was so niggly, so many fouls, supposed injuries ( A drink of water, a quick rub and amazingly a player recovers from a terrible injury) and little goalmouth action. I’ll add that Amnat had to change their ‘keeper in the first half, when he was taken to hospital. A lengthy delay whilst he was treated, before going in the ambulance, yet with all the other stoppages too, added time of only 4 minutes, which was surely way out.

It all got lively towards the end. The red mist certainly comes down here. People chasing each other around the athletics track! I think an Udon player dismissed too. Even had the police pulling out someone from the “VIP area”, although this perhaps this doesn’t have the same grandeur as in the UK, because even I could sit in there! Some satisfaction in that Udon scrambled a win, but hardly impressed.

I’ve said before that all this pre-match demonstration of “Fair Play” and “Respect” is so two-faced. e.g. Wai-ing a player, when you’ve just kicked him up in the air. Spare me, please.

Good news, seemingly, when I spoke to a fan outside, who helps out in administration. He suggested no further hassle will result from last week’s Nakhon Phanom events. The Brazilian player played in yesterday’s game, which indicates no work permit difficulty. The Iranian suspended because of accumulating three yellow cards.

Nakhon Phanom (and Udon) had good reason to complain about the referee last week, but NP’s action regarding Udon seems a lot like ‘sour grapes’. Well thumped at Ubon this week then. \:D/

"It`s a 10 year project", one UDFC-supporter answered on Facebook when asked when the stadium would be built.

I think this article say that games are moved from Sunday to Saturday due to the senate election, but I haven`t seen anything else about it.

Brian and me had a roadtrip to Nong Bua last Saturday and we got a disappointing result. UDFC tried to win but Nong Bua looked happy with a draw, specially in the last 15 minutes when there was a lot of timewasting from the home team.

Only 5 games into the season, but if I was a betting man I would say that Ubon UMT will be amongst the 2 teams going to Champions League this season. They have won all 5 games and scored 25 goals. I think UDFC and Surin will be fighting for the other CL-spot, while 1 or 2 other teams might surprise and beat them to it. The summer transfer window might be decisive.

I just checked with some of the hard-core fans and their feedback is unanimous: this weekend game has indeed moved to Saturday.

UDFC has a new chairman (again), and he is said to be a very rich businessman (Suwit Pipatwilaikul). Let`s see if he can make a difference...

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » March 28, 2014, 7:05 am

Good stuff, Svein. For all my huffing and puffing at various people to list the playing squad in English, you’ve succeeded. At least we’ll be able to put a name to a player, rather than just a number.
A quick check indicates that only 10 players from last season were retained, more than I thought. But I have trouble distinguishing the Thai players, unless they have an outlandish haircut, or have dyed it blonde or red! To hold onto only 25% of your playing staff doesn’t seem very constructive, but with short-term contracts and difficulties in paying players, it’s hardly surprising they move elsewhere.
As far as Wiki is concerned, would be nice to incorporate some history of the Club and a season by season review. Last season can be done fairly easily, not forgetting the League Cup ‘run’. (I can draft something there if you wish.) Yes, leading goalscorers etc. Perhaps the Regional League and Champions League tables, in part, might be included. Something about the fans. Future plans.
There’s the option to make the playing kit detail clearer.
TIT, so goodness knows what the official capacity of the stadium is meant to be. The installation of the orange seats would, I imagine, have actually reduced it a little. That said, the figure of 2,147 is probably exceeded every game and we KNOW that 3,000 tickets were sold for the Buriram game, without the provision of any additional seating.
Wait whilst I run for the mouthwash, but the Buriram wiki site is a guide as to what might be created. Suphanburi too.
Come on Svein – put down that Harem beer and get on with it!

Some good ideas there, Brian! Let`s try to make UDFC the best thai clubpage on wiki. I used Buriram`s page yesterday for some input + Bangkok United. Have been at Suphanburi`s this morning.
Would be great if you could review the seasons, or at least the last one.

I`m also trying to include some fans, both for info and translations. Got all the crests yesterday, as you might have seen on FB.
UDFC in thai on wiki say founded in 1999 (English 2005) and stadium capacity 3000. There`s alo a history there which has to be translated.
I also found Pro League (Provincial and Professional League) in thai, so more seasons will be added to Season by season record as soon as I have figured all seasons out.
