FIFA World Cup

Post by Kudjap or Bust » May 30, 2006, 4:10 pm

Does anyone know if UBC are showing any of the FIFA World Cup? I just picked up a copy of the magazine and, knowing that it is invariably wrong, can't see any live listing for the opening ceremony or any of the matches.
Tried calling UBC and got what I would describe as the run around then left on hold for an eternity...

Any ideas

Finally spoke to someone senior in the UBC Sports programming department, they are not going to broadcast any of the FIFA world cup games. But he did email me a listing of the knockout stage games being shown on the free Thai TV channels, and I guess there's English commentary on some through UBC

If anyone's interested I can email them a copy. Or if theres a way I can upload it to the Udonmap website please let me know.

I would like a copy of that please.

I can't believe that UBC are not covering the world cup, and Thai TV is..
The good news is that if you have UBC and you watch the world cup on the Thai TV chanell you will get the commentary in English (as opposed to Thai if you're watching on Thai TV - which is pretty naff btw - eg "OOHOOOO team Angrit Kittung Rooney jing jing loiy" - "Capum!"

Excuse the digression from the very serious matter of World Cup football TV coverage, but what I want to know Beer Monkey, (your Avatar) is that the "soft shoe shuffle", or a serious case of St Vituses dance??!!

Back on topic, does anyone know what coverage there will be on cable TV in Udon? :?

What is happening in this world?! I read yesterday that the Official Beer of the World Cup is (drum roll......)

BUDWEISER

No s**t.

That's embarassing -- Bud is Germany? Bud is horrible, weak, near-tasteless. I wonder how much the sponsorship cost Anheuser-Busch.

And the Official Food Provider is McDonald's. We won't even go there.

There is a chart available on BBC website, with dates and times.

If you are in Thailand, remember to add six (or is it seven #-o ) hours on to times.

There's some South African Channels that show the games on cable TV channel 54, 56 or 58 and the commentary is in English. Does anybody know of any sports bars in Udon, I've justed moved here from Bangkok and have no idea.

Suggest checking out the Irish Clock Pub for World Cup football with English commentary. Stayed at Charoensri Grand Hotel a few weeks ago and, from our window on 11th floor, we could see an impressive looking satellite dish on the roof of the ICB. Stopped in for a very good roast dinner and draft beers at ICB on a Sunday afternoon and the regulars were watching/enjoying a game.

Has it really been 40 years since England won? It's about time, eh guys? Chances of the USA winning? Nil.

I've been watching a lot of the games this year and enjoying it, for the most part. Got a question for the connoisseurs of the sport out there. When did diving become such a big part of the game? You would think a sniper picked off a few of these guys the way they flip over and writhe in agony from an apparent nudge or ground tremor from someone running close by them or something. Are they issuing yellow or red cards for these thespians?

A casual observer but wondering.

Who is going to win this year?

Yes, great isn't it! There should be a few "Academy Award" nominations.

It can get quite amusing when the supposed injured party has been removed from the pitch and then realises that he needs to back on quickly to support his team in a critical situation! He then has to get the referees attention and get permission to come back on again.

Also, there have been a couple of incidents where players were laying injured more or less across the corner flag, when a corner kick had been awarded. :?
