Physical Education College Fitness Users...

Post by rjj04 » November 13, 2009, 3:28 pm

I was curious if anybody that uses the Physical Education College fitness centre would support the posting of some usage rules, such as...

1) If you are not using a piece of equipment, do not sit on said equipment while others are waiting
2) Share the station you are using if another wants to use it as well. Interleave sets.
3) etc, etc

This comes about due to the strange looks I get from Thais sometimes when I politely ask to use the machine they have been using very sporadically and hogging for 30 minutes or more. They seem a bit offended sometimes.

Sounds sensible, but I do not use it, yet.
Can you post the membership rules, fees, etc.
Thanks.

No membership that I know of, although I believe they have a monthly and yearly rate. The daily rate is 30B for fitness, and I believe it is 20 or 30 baht for the swimming pool. They also have a sauna, though I have never used it.

The only rules I have seen are the signs saying "Please be quiet" :-"

The facilities in the Gym are very good and I use it on average 3 times per week. The use of equipment can be a problem in any Gym and just to restore the balance of of opinion I find that Falang are equally guilty of sitting and talking whilst hogging the equipment for up to 30 or 40 minutes at a time.
I tend to work round the problem by changing the order I prefer to train to one fitting the available kit and going back to my prefferred option later. I lived by rules for most of my working life and prefer the self management approach if relevant and possible, already 2 bits of kit have time limits on them which I know get ignored by some users, but in the main things are relaxed and easily dealt with.
Rules are fine but it does not change attitude and maybe some cultural differances, all in all just an alternative view. Relaxed and friendly is always a better management tool for me.
The yearly fee by the way is 3000 Baht real value for money and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Hi,
Great swimming pool there. 10 year old daughter just finished learning to swim, they have a instructor there and he is very good. I think all young children should be taught to swim.
I'm a bit to old now for the gym but i like a relaxing swim.

I understand working around the problem, but there is at least one machine (I think they call them a "universal" machine), which you can use for many different exercises. If somebody is hogging both stations of that machine then you are out of luck on quite a few exercises not reproducible on other machines. Anyway, I thought a slight reminder might be in order, seems nobody else cares much, so mums the word :-&

I avoid the farang time period (mid morning) because too many people there then, must change the routine all the time, not worth it.

I used to use the swimming pool, but it seems to have just gotten forgotten since they are building a new pool. Typical, we'll just build a new one rather than maintain something attitude  Watched the cleaner cleaning it the other day, the bottom went from green to blue, except for the large area he just left alone, for what reason, I have no idea. One big green spot in the pool, mai pen rai  With that much bacteria in there, doubt if I would want to swim in there.. will wait for the new pool to open, assuming it will be accessible.
