Village rides a reminder included

Post by Bump » September 30, 2006, 5:00 pm

The wife and I escaped for a few hours today, went towards Nong Khia and back up to Phen and before the turn off to Udon Thani, ran into an accident.

A driver had miscalculated a curve, hit one on the cement posts used to mark the curves and ended up in the cement drainage ditch, very much dead. His speed was enough to break the pole in half, narrow roadway and bumpy.

Brand new motorcycle, no helmet, which probably would have saved a life today.

I didn't see any skid marked around at all, so best guess the deceaed was probably the only one involved in the accident. May have been other things involved I don't know.

But it did remind me of a few things, wear tehe safety equipment there is no such thing as a safe road.

Never outride your abilities

Never outride the capabilities of the motorcycle you are riding, Small bikes at higher speeds can be very dangerous simply because they bounce around a lot.

Never out ride the road condition, sometimes 0 is the safe speed.

Village rides are fun and there is less traffic but they are still dangerous.

:( chances are alcohol played a role too! Some people have a hard time making the speed adjustment needed when they leave the big highways to the smaller ones!

Booze wa definetly a possibilty, but seeing the newness of the bike could have just been not used to the bike. Went in a bit fast and didn't lean it.
