UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Svein66 » January 2, 2014, 7:19 pm

The new season is only 5-6 weeks away (date not confirmed yet). It looks like there will be only 14 teams in the North-Eastern region this year. Roi Et is promoted to D1 and Yasothon won`t play until 2015 because their pitch (or stadium?) won`t be ready in time.

Udon Thani FC
Ubon UMT FC
Nong Khai FT
Surin City
Loei City
Mahasarakham United
Kalasin FC
Sisaket United
Nakhon Phanom FC
Sakhon Nakhon FC
Amnat Town
Chaiyaphum United
Nong Bua Lamphu FC
Mukdahan City

Pouya is back at UDFC after his new club Phang Nga didn`t have any money. :D

The team started training for the new season yesterday, with a few players on trial. Hopefully there will be some great new signings soon.

The clubs above are now confirmed by the organizer. As last season there are 6 leagues in Division 2, but this year there is 5x14 teams and 1x13 (south). The 2 best teams in each league qualifies for the promotion play-off.

The winner of Sakhon Nakhon vs UDFC will play at home (I think) to the winner of Tak vs Petchabun on Feb 8 or 9. Tak and Petchabun was the 2 bottom teams in the Northern region last season.
Sakhon Nakhon vs UDFC will be played on Saturday February 1st at 4pm.

Draw for the opening day of the league:
Kalasin vs Udon Thani
Game to be played on Feb 15 or 16

If same as last season, this means we will play at home to Kalasin in the last game.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Drunk Monkey » January 25, 2014, 10:19 am

Went to sort out my sons Udon FC academy enrollment recently and spoke with supposedly the clubs owner (very nice chap) .... things look a bit grim on the Udon team selection front , as of now the squad is relatively small with only one "major" signing , many players from last year have moved on ... could be a long hard season if playing with limited small inexperienced squad .... fingers crossed may need some of the academy boys !!!

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » January 29, 2014, 1:54 pm

I don't think this has been mentioned to date. The father of the Phen Saturday market family who are absolute Udon FC 'nuts', told my wife that Udon played Nongbualamphu other day in a pre-season warm up game. Apparently, a small cup involved.
Udon won 2-1,if it really mattered. I didn't pick up any information about the game beforehand(if there was any!, although there seems to be something on Giant Gangster now on result), but would probably have gone to see how things were shaping up. As it is, I don't know if it took place at home or away, whether there were unlimited substitutes etc.

Personally, I rather like the idea of developing local talent, as opposed to bringing in 'journeymen'. Of course, it's a long process. Perhaps I'm an old-fashioned romantic in hoping local lads will stay loyal and give their upmost for their home Club.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Svein66 » January 30, 2014, 12:09 pm

Good to see you here again, Brian! :D
I didn`t see anything either about a friendly last week, but as you say it looks like there`s something about the result on FB.
I agree with you about local talent. There are too many poor foreign players at clubs in Thailand. They need to develop their own. Foreigners are good if they are certain to be in the starting 11 every time, but to have them sitting on the bench game after game is a waste of money.

Pouya has left UDFC for the 2nd time, after returning from Phang Nga a few weeks back. He is now going to play for Customs United in D2 Bangkok.

New season only a couple of days away, with the cupgame at Sakhon Nakhon on Saturday. Hoping for a good cuprun this season too. I also would like to see them enter the FA-cup, which they didn`t do last season.

This season all leagues will have a mid-season break, which the 2 northern leagues didn`t have last season, and that might make the promotion play-offs more fair for those getting there.

It's better that he goes, because it looks like he really not want to play for UDFC
